that LDS465 weighs 2/3 as much as my whole jeep :gag:

maybe I should just pull the cab off the 5 ton and bolt what's left of my MJ to it.

Part of me kinda doesn't want to 'spill the beans' with a build thread on this until it's done and working. I'll document it, but if it winds up working well, i'd like to keep the competitive advantage for at least one season. :laugh:

Edit: and if it epically fails, wipe the slate and start over, no 'i told you so's'. :|

Like sam said, i'm basically doing a mashup of three shitboxes from the early 90's. If this thing ends up being even reasonably competitive i'll chalk up a victory. I just think it'll be a fun project and i'm looking forward to building it as much as i am driving it, and maybe along the way i'll contribute some new tech to the budget racing enthusiasts.

So talking weak links: NV4500 input gear at 9000 RPM? Be kinda shitty if i blew a gear through the side of the case.

If the internals are similar at all to an NP435, the scary thing to me would be the roller bearings inside the input shaft that support the mainshaft.

Those have got to be seeing some serious shit at those speeds. Especially since it was really designed for a little over half of those RPMs :laugh:

Oh, and next time you have time or whatever, can you look for that 1.250" NV4500 input shaft?

I'm still swinging back and forth, but I think I'm going to suck it up and go that route and the gas versions are cheaper.

I'll be doing one of those trips. We'll see what one happens. Either one, I'll be in a big block RV towing my XJ out there.

I've heard good things about the SHO motors, but my worries were about sustained redline(or close) RPM like you'll be doing. Especially considering there's a much larger load behind it than from the factory. But hell, if you're just throwing minimal cash at why not see if it ends up being badass, right? It's a shame you aren't doing a build thread, I was hoping to watch the progress unfold, then nutswing til my arms ripped off. And as far as KOH 2013, I guess I'll have to make my way to NACfest next year so I can meet you and kiss ass for a spot on the crew.

I have no idea if I will be going anywhere in 2013. Ask me two weeks before you leave and I might have some sort of a plan :laugh2:

If I go with my jeep, I'll probably stuff an entire spare drivetrain and suspension into a trailer (likely MJ bed trailer, since I own an extra now...) and drive it out with all my tools and a few weeks worth of food and water, as usual.

There shouldn't be a much larger load...really, this thing is only gonna be about 3000 lbs. The motor was originally designed as a boat motor and can hold sustained RPM's for a long time, especially being DOHC. Weak points are oil temperatures and bottom end bearings, which i'll keep an eye on.

Probably will be in the 5-6k range usually. Considering I ran my 4.6 stroker at 3-4k all the time, that should be OK.

Can you guys tell that i'm more than a little eager to get started on this piece of shit? :D
