THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Someone with a welder and steel wheels.

:D

I am not running bullshit beadlocks ever again. I want something with a ring that actually tightens down on something, that I don't have to use a wrench on the backside of, and has some sort of protection for the bolts.

My current ones are 36 bolts each. You need to go around them at least 4 times, not counting the long ones you have to use to start them. So call it 5.

36 x 5 x 4 = 720 tightening cycles to install my set of tires, and 144 times holding a wrench in there to take them apart. XXXX that.

Edit: and then you have to periodically tighten them anyway, and it's hella fun when the space behind the beadlock ring fills up with mud that has no where to wash out.

Any reason for not wanting an internal beadlock like I have?

Just serviceability. Thinking ahead to the possibility of having to swap a tire/wheel in a race situation.

A real beadlock is WAY easier to get the tire over the outside bead. No tire spoons or anything like that required. Just kinda smoosh it over and then bolt the outer ring down...takes like 5 minutes with a cordless impact.

How much of a pain would it be to put a new tire on one of your wheels?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Would probably take longer than 5 minutes.

And you have to becareful not to tear the inner tube when removing/putting on the tire.

Not something I'd want to have to do in a race situation.

When would you have to pull the tire off the wheel in a race situation? Assuming you have a full size spare ready to go.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i like my allieds.

i like them better with the 5/16 nutserts punched out and using 3/8 nuts/bolts and toothed washers.

i dont like the fact that i used to air down too low and try to go fast and now the inner lips are all banged up and they dont hold air when aired down low

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want to see a beadlock that uses a bigass round plate and a giant bolt in the center that you crank down to 700 ft lbs and you are good to go

one big bolt> a lot of little bolts

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I probably have "A" spare ready to go.

I anticipate having 4 or 5 'good' wheels, but more tires than that. I'm only gonna be running 35's so I'll probably build up a stock of used mud terrains and crap like that. Flat a tire on the course, swap the spare on, then swap a new tire onto the beadlock wheel when you get back to the pit.

Ideally this is the job of the 'pit crew', but I'm not that cool yet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm just trying to think of everything about the XJ that ever XXXXed me over or pissed me off while racing or working on it, and figure out ways to avoid those things in the future.

My beadlock wheels are one of those things.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

or not run old mtrs and you dont have to worry about twigs putting holes in yo tires

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

90% leaning towards 35x12.5R17 red letter Grabbers at this point.

i want those for the next j10 tire. do they come in a 37 yet? 35s fit stock so they might seem dainty when she sits a lil higher

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I never followed up with RCV on the idea of doing a double-CV'd shaft for the long side of my TTB.

A standard Dana 44 set is $1285.

This is gonna be the most badass Dana 35 on the planet.
