Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

25-28mpg isn't good mileage? You can get good mpg, much lower cost than new, and "performance".

Until the woman vetos driving her 3rd.

If I'm going to buy a car it's mostly because I want mileage. To me, anything in the 20s is average, 30s is good, and closing in on 40 is great.

Kate's Sentra seems to get right around 30-33 mpg on the highway when I've driven it with her.

It's not a rocketship by any means, but it definitely gets out of it's own way. I've had it up to 95 before without a hitch.

Oh, and it's a 4 cylinder :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If you want mileage and cool factor you want TDI

too bad sentras are among the 10 gayest cars you can possibly own.

i hit 100mph in a vehicle that has a sticker in the door that says "vehicle speed not to exceed 55mph" because im awesome. it gets up there pretty quick, but doesnt go any higher.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'd rather take a 2-3mpg hit and be able to get out of it's own way when I need it too, but its fine if you can't. :)

It's fine if Mark wants new, I understand that. We're were just not at all in the point to buy anything new and I'm sure as heck not leasing.

 I didn't say I would own it, but it works for her.

I just said it definitely can get out of it's own way .

I understand it too if you have the cash.

Kate leased and then bought outright. Seemed to work for her :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

most logical vehicle for any of US is a stock xj. we all know how to fix them quickly and we all can get any part we want for less than $200.
I disagree. Most logical vehicle to DD without needing to fix stuff constantly is NOT an XJ. I drive a stock XJ right now and want something new. Maybe a newer XJ will be better, and have less maintenance, but the thing for me is I don't want any maintenance...at all. I don't want to have to worry about doing brakes because something isn't right with them, worry about diagnosing a vibration, etc. Which is why I'm looking at a new car. It has a warranty, won't have the wear and tear of the older cars (newest XJ is still almost 11 years old), and won't require me to do any work on it.

*2012 Impreza gets better gas mileage than the previous year model of the Impreza.

Do you have an example of a vehicle that has that good mileage, is much lower cost than new, has performance, and has a manual transmission? I really haven't found any that fit all those categories, but I'm curious (not being a dick or anything, really wondering if you know of some) to hear what you have. I'm pretty particular with what I do and don't like for cars, so.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bought my altima more or less new back in '08 (was an '08 altima with 9k miles on it). Never again will I buy something that new. I've learned that I'll stick with cars that are 3-5+ years old.

Though thinking about it I did make out pretty well with the altima. I bought it for $19k (give or take a grand, somewhere in the $18k-$20k range), drove it for 3 years, and sold it with 70k-75k miles for $12,500 or so.

Assuming I sold it for $7000 less than I bought it for that is essentially the equivalent of paying a bit less than $200 per month which means I paid less than I would have for a lease and I didn't have the silly mileage limits.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

From everything I looked at unless you are in a high dollar car, your getting an auto unless it is a base model 3 or 4cyl. That engine option was out of my scope of looking. So no, I can't help you Mark. ;)

Exactly my point, there are almost no cars with manual transmissions, and even less with any type of performance until you get up to the engines that take premium gas. That is one of my requirements, manual tranny. The fusion is only V6 AWD with an auto. The manual option is 4cylinder base. I test drove a 4 cy base auto, didn't like it too much.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't think that's possible with a vehicle.

Don't pretend like you don't definitely agree and see my point when ever we are on the phone where I'm tired of working on vehicles period. :)

I'm fine with oil changes, typical small stuff like that. But when I step on the brakes and feel weird pulsing all of a sudden, when I hear weird noises I need to diagnose, when I turn the heat on and it comes on alright one day, but less than luke warm the other (like this morning when it was freezing, and the car wouldn't get up to temp until I was almost at work), or when i feel a vibration and groaning at 65mph, that is the stuff I don't want to deal with right now.

I want the warranty to fix it. :D

Base model '11 or '12 Camaro.

~320HP V6, 6-speed manual as base option, 30 mpg highway on regular, sub-6 second 0-60.

I'd take the new mustang over the new camaro but that's just me.

And did you look at mazda 3s at all? Idk much about them but my buddy was thinking about getting one and seemed to feel they met his criteria pretty well (and he wanted some space, performance, manual trans, etc too so...)

 Sorry I had to take that one out of context. Was too funny.

I understand what you're saying though.

Also more expensive than a base model mustang that I looked at. Also takes premium gas, also doesn't have a ton of cargo space (in the past I have put a good amount of stuff in my vehicles). That is also 30mpg highway, where as it is close to 30mpg city in others.

But I would love to have a camaro. :D

You already own a Mustang, and my screen name is vetteboy. Never the twain shall meet.

It's a bitter enough pill to swallow knowing that the motor for my next rig says Ford on it, but at least it's Yamaha-sourced.

I always thought it was funny that you had an XJ and a Dodge.

Yet your name was vetteboy.

:D
