Re: The NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
(Apologies for the wall of text :laugh3
The stock sound system has 8" shallow mount subs installed in the lower doors and 6x8" mid range installed toward the top of the doors and in the rear deck.
With limited time/planning from this morning I was thinking of installing Kenwood 8" shallow mount subs (I'm limited to kenwood or pioneer for these) and probably Boston Acoustics 5.25" components in place of the 6x8s (both front and rear). I'm not set on boston acoustics yet but I do like a lot of their stuff so :dunno:
As I already mentioned I am doing speakers first since it sounds like garbage now due to a blown speaker or two; I might be ordering speakers tonight. The speakers will be followed up with a head unit later this month which will be installed with stock wiring & an adapter. I will leave it like that for a while until I build up some $$ in the bank for a house... I just want to get it the car sounding decent for now.
After I have put aside some $$ I am going to pull everything and run RCA cables and power to the trunk to a couple amps.. I was thinking about running a JL Audio 4 channel amp to the four components and run the preamp (from the 4 channel amp) out to a Rockford Fosgate 2 channel amp which will power the 8" subs in the doors.
When I pull everything out and do it right this 2nd time I will also run wires to the trunk for a Amp/Subwoofer but won't be buying and installing one of those right away. again... just to hold off until I build up some $$ in the bank... then get a sub and amp (I haven't decided on what to use for that yet but leaning towards a JL Audio stealth enclosure, sub, and amp).

I will probably be installing the speakers in (or near) the stock locations.x2. The front speakers in my VW cost me only $160.
And Scott, don't do it in stages. Just do it once and do it right and you'll save $ in the long run. I had every detail of my system planned before I purchased a single piece. What are you getting for amps? The equipment will only sound as good as the installation meaning that speaker placement is key. So how crazy do you want to go?
If only I could have been as diligent with my project planning on my XJ as my soundsystem.
