I dragged the pegs on a borrowed '93 Honda Shadow 600 once. That was an interesting experience...

That bike was actually pretty fun...and it was the exact same shade of glamour turquoise as my XJ. I probably would have bought it if the guy was interested in getting rid of it at the time.

Yeah, you know it when it happens.

All bikes are fun. I've never gotten on anything with 2 wheels that I couldn't have fun on. There are just some things that are a lot more fun than others.

As of right now I'm going down to DC the week before NACfest.

Nice! I wonder that the big difference is between it and the M8000. I'd guess the motor given that the specs on Warn's site says it is slower and draws less current but had the same gear ratio.

I wonder how much of it isn't due to fundamental differences but Chris's Smittybuilt just being really tired.

Yup I agree Mark. Doing 60 mph on an off-ramp is just plain stupid.

Especially if there's a yield at the end of it, since I've seen plenty people come to a complete stop if they're afraid of merging.

my dad works at a harley shop, he gets the occasional fatboy or softtail in for new exhaust pipes because the back tips were flattened on the ground due to wheelies.

no idea who has the balls to try that.

I've had way too many close calls on on/off ramps to even consider doing that crap.

Maybe it's the ramps I use frequently, but half the time people come to a complete stop on them because they're scared to merge. I don't mean rolling stop, I mean they're completely stopped like at a traffic light and you can't see them until you completely round the corner due to a really sharp radius.

Ya, I got the physics of that, I was just wondering where you were/what turn you were going around that you were going 60mph around a turn like that. I'm surprised the bike didn't just lose it in the turn once the front wheel came off, but then again it was probably only off for a fraction of a second, right?

I know you rag on Harley's and stuff, and say how a ton of people don't like them because of their personalities and the stuff they do, but I'm sorry I just find that stupid and dangerous. I've seen people with sport bikes do a lot more stupid and dangerous things than I have ever seen someone on a Harley do.

The final right turn on the off ramp between rt 24 N and rt 81S. Here. I don't actually know how fast I was going. I wasn't looking at the speedo... It was only for a fraction of a second and it was pretty much right at the apex so I was able to straighten up and settle the bike down right there.

Yeah, I do rag on them for that. Was it immature of me to ride like this on the street? Yes. Was it fun? Hell yes. I'm not defending what I did, just sharing a story.

Doing dumb things is subjective. Things that look insane might be very within the rider's talent and machine's capability. Not always, though. Whether or not that same act is illegal is a different topic. I don't think everything that's illegal is dumb or vise versa. Riding like this on the street is sorta like illegal wheeling. The place for it is the track, but we can't all get there every day so we want our kicks somehow.

60mph isn't bad. For the first 2 turns it was quite slow. The right turn at the very end, however, got tight.

I don't ride like that when I can't see the end of the ramp. I'm not that dumb.

Once again see above, I don't do that when I can't see the end of the turn before I go into it. Also, that rarely happens on the ramps that I take. There are only a few spots and that's due to poor visibility and road design but thankfully I don't need to take those roads anymore.

It might also have something to do with the vehicles you drive because I'd never do it in a 3/4 ton either.

I'd like to learn how to powerslide a little better. I used to be pretty good at doing it without brakes on my mountain bike.

WTF. That sounds like a terrible idea. Where's the oil pickup on those engines? I know on SV's it's in the front of the case so doing a prolonged wheelie basically starves the engine.

that. the rubber, brakes and overall handling of that car made me a god in the driver's seat. it wasn't 'fast' but i outpaced porsches in the twisties... some left foot brake to hang the tail and counter the awd's understeer, heel-toe to keep the revs up...

And comparing driving fast on an on/off ramp to illegal wheeling is just retarded.

disagree wholeheartedly. if i'm doing 50-60 over where the only person i can hurt is myself, thats 100% fine to me. i tracked many miles well over the limit upstate at night in my subie.

Scott, what something being partially clogged in the fuel delivery system?

??? Did you mean "what about something being partially clogged"?

I did think of that but I have no clue what it might be. The carbs were just cleaned and rebuilt and I have a new fuel filter on there.

I'm starting to wonder if the bike has something like a CPS or some other sensor that drives the signal to the tach and drives the spark plugs.

Seems like that might be my culprit since the bike loses power and the tach drops to 0. If the fuel delivery was fawked up I would think that it would ride like shit but the tach would still be accurate.

I'm just saying it was dumb and you agreed, yet you had to add a bunch of excuses to justify what you did. It was just funny you had to say you weren't defending it, when you really were.

I know and a lot of people think it's dumb, and you were even trying to justify that spending as much as me/Bill/Chris etc. do is "not worth it since you only get like 20 trail runs a year on it". I don't even bother trying to explain it to anyone :laugh:
