THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The top left one will go all the way up to where it say "4x4" on the older XJs like OR-Fab's without the tail light wieners. The other three are like JCR's with out the tail light wieners.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

keith will those fit the 97+ with the body line? i havent looked at pre 97 bod lines in a long while

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The odds of them looking like a real company's is slim to none. I cut them out with my buddy's plasma cutter that I've never used before, and did them by hand. But they'll be a lot cheaper than buying a set from JCR or something.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll give you $20 if they look good. CASH MUNEE!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just found out Dorman now makes a replacement clutch line for my XJ - previously you could only get it along with a new master/slave cylinder.

Got one on order so at least I can get rid of the compression union in the middle of my existing line. Still gonna have to chop the end off to mate to my internal slave cylinder though. Isn't it great modifying brand new parts before they even make it on the rig?

Also found out my trip to Germany is cancelled, so between that and not having to do a head gasket, I'll have a lot more time to really go over everything before the first Line Mtn race on the 11th.

Adam, tighten up your kidney belt, this one's gonna be rough. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

A few things that alarm me about that:

Putting a heavy engine in an otherwise perfectly balanced car :nono:
Buying someone elses cool project also means buying their headaches.
As was already mentioned the engine isn't that much heavier... however I was way ahead of you on the headaches thing. I had no real intent on buying it since for now I need to find something that can nearly guarantee me some level of reliability.. I just thought it would be a terrifyingly awesome DD.

How much you want for a set? I may or may not be interested

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Last time I blew the clutch line, the master cylinder went simultaneously.

I think I'm gonna try to fit the compression union back together at least temporarily, so I can make sure everything else is good. That'd be a really shitty hidden bummer factor to find out the internal slave is toast...definitely one of the only jobs I dread on my rig. Lots of stuff needs to come apart if that has to get replaced...

Did they switch to external slave on the newer ones?

The slave on my '01 is external. Two bolts to the bellhousing and it was done.

I don't care about your truck, I'm talking about XJ's here.

I think '93 they switched the AX15 from internal to external. So mine was external from the factory, however I had the wonderful experience of swapping a Peugeot BA!0/5 in when I did the 4x4 conversion. That had an internal slave which started the whole debacle of fittings & adapters.

I eventually swapped it out for an internal slave AX15...however when I got the bellhousing warrantied (the company I got the trans from didn't loctite the bolts going into the transmission, and a few fell out and got sent through the bellhousing by the flywheel) they sent me an external slave version. So I have an internal slave with custom-bent lines to make it out the external slave hole.

Then, if you use the adapter plate instead of the entire adapter bellhousing to mount the NV4500, you have to use an internal slave anyway. But I had the wrong bellhousing so I ended up having to grind a bunch of material off the external slave mounting boss in order to use the NV4500 adapter plate.

In hindsight the thing to do would have been to just swap in a pre-'93 master cylinder and use all the factory internal slave hardware. Not gonna bother doing that at this point though.

edit: it XXXXing figures that the clutch line I bought is $55, while the 'right' internal slave line is $15. I could probably have gotten the right master & line for cheaper than the new line.

'93 was internal slave.

I think they changed to external in '94 or '95.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nevermind, that sounds like a nightmare.

The fact that this thing still moves, let alone holds up to the abuse I put it through, amazes me every time I start it.

It's shit like that why I could never sell this thing complete. Thank god I have a great memory for that kinda stuff, because of course I've never written any of these things down to keep track of what came from where. :dunce:
