THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I use maybe a few a month at most as well - all the more reason why I'm bitter about paying for them.

Anyone know the difference between a standard XJ water pump and the 'severe/extra duty' model? Both Napa and RockAuto have listings for both...

Eh, I figure if I get 3 years out of a box of checks for $20 that's good enough for me. I spend more on many other things, $7 per year for checks isn't going to kill me.

And I was asking the same thing about the water pumps last year.. Don't remember what the difference was but IIRC I just got the HD one.

I just finished some financial aid crap online, now I can actually graduate. Suckers...

I saw your question but never answered earlier.

I decided not to move out west due to having family / friends here that I have a good close relationship with.

Not sure I could move that far away and be ok with it so it doesn't really apply to you.

Some people I'm sure would be far more comfortable than I would be.

To me, I'll just take a vacation there every so often.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

No clue. I bought a FlowKooler from Q-tec.

At a premium of 3x the price of even the 'severe duty' model, does this thing really do what it says it does?

I don't mind paying that much for a good water pump, as long as it's not just a gimmick. With the problems I had this weekend and the fact that it's only gonna get warmer out this season, I'm open to ideas.

No idea.

I had a CSF 3-row, FlowKooler pump, and 2 stock e-fans (10 blade 6 blade) and would only overheat if I sat in one spot not moving (like stuck on a muddy hill with boulders) on or near the rev limiter for a couple minutes continuously.

That's about all the help I can give you lol.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This was definitely the third-worst weather day I've ever experienced at the park...and that's likely only because I spent from 3:00 PM onwards in an enclosed trailer.

Low 40's temps; driving, horizontal, sleet/rain with flood warnings; 35-45 MPH wind gusts and tornado watch; no windshield, goggles cast aside (ADAM! FIX THESE XXXXING THINGS!), driving well over 50 MPH and shootin' for the redline in 5th gear on a narrow-as-shit double track with a 300-foot drop to I-81 on the left and random boulders on the right, and a gigantic perma-grin on my face.

It was around that time that Adam gave up trying to fix his goggles and decided it was better not to see what was coming.

LOL i knew we went around the corner in third, heard an upshift, heard one again and was thinking to myself "holy.. XXXX. im blind, chris can barely see... this is awsome."

I'm gonna stop by the bank and see what they can do, rather than go through the website. That just seems stupid.

Side note - anyone have an XJ fuse box lid laying around? Mine's gone, and the one on my parts XJ is gone too. :|

i might be able to dig one up.. i'll check when i'm home.

and i'm not a fan of flowkooler.. nick had one on his yj and it cooled worse than the stocker. the severe duty probably has a different impeller or something.

Ya, the family/friends thing was one thing I was thinking, but I also sometimes just want to get the hell out of here and just leave it all behind. I don't know, maybe I'll look at jobs a little later today.

Well I went from a crappy completely clogged system to replacing everything, but here is how my system cools. (I got the flowkooler before colin).
With generic all aluminum 2 row radiator, new hoses, t-stat, ZJ flan clutch and flowkooler, I stay at 195 all day long on road. Occasionally offroad the temps do get up some, around 210 maybe just above, but it hasn't overheated or come close to it yet. Like when we were at Sam's in the snow, it didn't really get above 210. Not sure if I can attribute it to the flowkooler or just replacement of a clogged system though.

Much better than before I changed the system, constantly running at like 220-230 onroad, with a delightful hot burning smell.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I still can never bring myself to spend a lot on shoes.
I thought that till this morning, now I am retracting my statement.
i'm a proud owner of a new pair of made in the us of a chippewa boots :D
I can now say the same.

I must have tried on 30 different boots this morning. I tried everything from a $50 to a $380 boot from several different brands/countries, and nothing fit like the US Made Chippewas (26330s). Quite a bit more than I wanted to spend, but at least they'll last.

I'm not typing it again, so y'all get the copy-paste edition.
[snip]
Sounds awesome! Stinks about the t-case issues, but a good time none the less.
You don't GSD a little, that's not how it works.
WTF. Since when do I have to pay to get checks for my own checking account?

Even the most basic ones are like $20 + shipping for 100 of 'em. What crap.
BoA tried doing that to me on my last batch. When I was at the bank the next time I complained and got it credited back. Maybe try that.

Ok, now that I've killed 1/2 my day shopping for a single item off I'm going outside with my new boots.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Not starting that debate again  Glad you got a pair you like.

I've gotten several years out of my Tim Pros so I'll probably just get another pair of those.

Once my MJ is finished I need to get some more jeans a new pair of boots.

 Those are damn near identical to mine. (Might have the exact model wrong, but that's close...)

What store did you go to? I've had great luck at Ted's Boots in Northampton.

To condition the leather when it starts to dry out and lose its waterproofedness get Sno-Seal.

Beware, your feet will bake during the summer, but it's worth it. They're awesome.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I really want to email this guy and find out how the hell he has over $15K invested in this barely modified TJ, and why he thinks its worth $12K. I'm guessing he is considering the money he spent to have someone install the parts (its on the cape, so I'm guessing I know what shop did it) is money invested.

Haha. Sorry.

I tried on several different styles of Tim Pros, almost no arch support and they didn't sit right on my ankles. They just wouldn't work right for my feet.

Yours look like full on higher heeled logger boots, not something I wanted climbing a ladder or framing all day. Nice boots though.

People still seem to think they can get their money back on wear items and bolt ons I guess.

[/lunch] later fellows.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My Merrill boots were bitchin' this weekend. Zero complaints, especially when walking back a mile and a half through the mud & flowing rivers after the jeep got shut down.

Gonna need a good cleaning though.

I prefer to have a pair of outdoor boots for stuff like that versus a workboot style for working on things. I'd have worn my Keens if I were at RC with you, I think.
