THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Bill, So true.

I had a handfull of the UMD motorsport club over my garage tonight. Let some of them use an angle grinder for the first time ever and got some mediocre progress done on a fender roller.

They'd made it this far without ever using an angle grinder? Definitely never owned an xj.

just took a ride on a slightly altered moped, lots of fun but cold at 50

My friend had a Yamaha Zuma with a bigbore kit. We told him it wouldn't like the stock carb and exhaust but he didn't listen. Made it halfway across town before it blew up. Expensive ass trip.

Nope. They were all 'tuner' kids.

The kid who actually seemed to like it the most owned a 06 civic Si :laugh3:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well, looks like I am upgrading to a WJ PS pump. the return line fitting on the back of my reservoir broke off as soon as I touched it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Went for a motorcycle ride. I picked a million random roads and ended up here.

I must say, not bad for a camera phone.

Using google maps I figured out I was here. This was taken looking south.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I asked this in a different thread that I made but haven't got a reply yet... anyone know if only the 1999 durango steering box works or does the '98 box work as well? (sites like car-part.com list them as interchangeable but all threads that I read on the durango box swap say only '99).

And/or can anyone confirm if a '99 dakota PS box would work too? Going to go to the yard tomorrow morning and hopefully get an alt, PS pump, and steering box to get the POS running again (finally).

why don't you just buy a new replacement reservoir from me for $2X? easy peasy lemon squeezy

Anthony, nice proof that not all of New Beige is that bad!

I was riding through Little Compton, southern Westport, southern Dartmouth, and southern NB for quite a while. All 4 towns are extremely nice in that area. I think I liked southern Westport the most...

As an added bonus, many people were burning brush today and I love that smell. I know it's asking for a lot, but the only thing that could have made the ride better would have been another 10* warmer.

Also, I almost hit a wood chuck. They're fat and slow.

Because I was already contemplating doing a WJ pump and durango box upgrade. My current stuff is definitely getting a bit old/leaking so I figure that upgrading is as good of an option as anything.

Plus I can get a Dakota steering box for $50 (assuming dakota/durango are the same) and a WJ pump for $50 max so it should be cheap enough to make it worthwhile.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Man I really gotta get my bike to the shop. I never got around to calling on Friday like I hoped so I guess it will be done this week.

On the other hand selling the Fazer and getting something newer (buell, triumph, yamaha, or otherwise) has REALLY been tempting me lately as much as I planned on riding the fazer till it died.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Having a turnkey bike that is not a maintenance headache is awesome. There are few things I've been as happy with as the purchase of my bike.

edit: I forgot to mention - I inverted my shift linkage. Now I push down to upshift. Upshifts are a lot faster and crisper now. Took some getting used to but I'm definitely not going back.

Since I bought it the bike has been pretty much turnkey. Cleaned the carbs last year and had one time when my battery died on me but otherwise it hasn't given me any issues. Runs mint for being 25 years old. I just can't decide if I want a bit of a change now.

And I could see changing the linkage to something that would give faster/crisper shifts but idk about inverting it... that just doesn't make sense to me but to each his own I guess.

What would you be looking to improve in a newer model?

As long as there's no slop in the linkage, there's no reason to change the hardware IMO. I just changed flipped the arm on the transmission 180* to change the direction that the linkage operates. It only feels crisper because it's easier to push down than it is to lift your toe.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Well first of all if I went to a newer model I would be going to more of a sport bike rather than a standard. Figure while I'm young I might as well have a sport bike and I can get a touring/standard when I get older (though at the same time that's why I love my bike now and don't want to sell it, comfortable and still quite fun to ride). I am going to be selling one of the two bikes later this year so keeping the fazer and buying a sport bike may be an option though I have been trying to convince myself otherwise.

I would be looking at improved performance, improved fuel economy, improved reliability (while my bike has been reliable I know a newer bike w/ EFI would be better), possibly improved comfort...

And I have never really had an issue with pulling up to shift, seems more natural to pull up while accelerating and push down while braking. If everything is adjusted right I wouldn't think it would be much (if any) faster to push down to shift though I have never used that setup so I probably shouldn't comment.

I say buy whatever kind of bike you want. A family friend (~50 yrs old) rode an R1 until recently.

Like you said, to each his own :) I figured it would be easy to set up and easy to put back in the event that I didn't like it. Turns out I like it quite a lot. If you get that sportbike you're talking about, you ought to give it a shot. Having your left toe so damn close to the ground during a hard left turn that you want to upshift coming out of sucks. This lets you keep your foot on the top of the pedal and make the same shift.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Its funny, because I always thought that that was how the shifter pattern on bikes were, to upshift is down. It does make sense, but then again when I play video games I need to enable the y-axis inversion.

Is Ken really on a time out?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want an RC-51 or some sort of KTM supermoto bike...sam any suggestions??

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My girlfriend drove all the way up to NH to surprise me panos yesterday. She is amazing :)

On another note, I think I'm going to be ready to buy shocks by the end of today. For the fronts I can stuff a shock that's no more than 16" collapsed. I was thinking about some 5165 360/80s. Thoughts?

The rear will probably just get some 5125 255/70s

mine.

its the same motor as the big supermoto ktms. bigger gas tank, fairing, comfyer seat.

the older supermotos used the same frame, the newer ones are crazy and have nothing between the motor and the ground.

but the lc4 is a good motor. I have read up on em and people who bring them across the deserts and mountain passes go up to 40k miles without going inside them. which is pretty crazy for a motorcycle.

idk much more about the strict supermoto bikes. but with street tires on mine. the powerband is smooth enough and enough power is there that i can powerslide on pavement when im feelin ballsy.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I rode my buddies KTM 530 sx? Street legal enduro...HOLY BALLS that bike moved leaning on the tank it lifts the wheel until 4th and im 240lbs. Also its a 6 speed and can handle 70mph highway cruising bike will also do 115mph...
