THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Empty curb weight:
Yours: 5789lbs
Mine: 5994lbs
Add 30gal of diesel fuel: 215lbs
That puts us both over 6k lbs without adding anything to the trucks (tonneau, bedliner, parts, whatever is on the back seat).

Which is my point...?

I haven't added much of anything to my truck. MAYBE an extra 100 pounds (tow hooks, compressor setup, tonneau cover). I don't carry anything in my truck or in the bed, other than a milkcrate with fluids/straps that probably weights 5 lbs.

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the limit of a lift I'd be putting my life under. Even a 9k lbs lift seems sketchy to me lifting a truck like ours. No way you'd ever get Ross's old man's truck on a lift like that either (not that I'd ever want to own something that big)

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near the limit either, but I can't see a 9k lift being sketchy for lifting something like our trucks. That's a 2500 lb safety zone, and then the safety factor they take into account when building it...that's not enough?

Exactly, but why limit yourself?

He can lift every vehicle he owns. If they never plan on owning a fullsize truck they'll be fine.

Your Ramcharger was likely close to over that, empty curb weight for a 4x4, V8 is listed at 4440 lbs.

Even with the added weight of 33s and a 440 (only 200 more TOPS than a small block) I doubt it was much over 5k lbs...if at all.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think I just vomited.
If you think that is bad, wait until I show you a picture of a section in the rear frame, where three out of 4 of the walls are no longer there.

Mark, did it rot through from the inside? Looks to me like the failure mode is that the weld burns the galvanizing and any other coatings off the inside of the tube, leaving it wide open for rust to start. This is why I don't like the idea of welding stiffeners on without having a way to seal the frame rail, the same exact thing happens to the metal and it's just as vulnerable to rust.

Yes it rotted from the inside. It did not burn the coatings off from the inside, because there never were any coatings on the inside, Jeep never felt like doing it I guess. There are few drain holes too, so the sand that gets trapped in there rusts it out faster.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My dad has lifts at the shop. I have no idea what they're rated for. I put anything on them including huge ass trucks. Haven't died yet.

jesus, even mine had 2.5 walls left (inner wall, floor, and half of the bottom.)

wow that's pretty lame.

This kind of failure (and what happened to my 96) is basically why I've been considering the whole "replace the frame with fully sealed box tubing" idea at all. I know you guys still think I'm an idiot for it, but I really hate rust, sheetmetal, and spot welds, especially when combined.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I also have a E250 with a dana 60 at the shop with 3.73s and drums. I would take it but I don't want drums and this is the second one i've seen in a month, i'm sure i'll see another.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There's also a ranger there like billy's. I was going to take the clutch pedal but I don't like that either.

Do you read the forums?

Looks like my backpacking trip is July 7-10. I'll be coming to NACfest, arriving late Thurs night, departing Sun morning.

Probably camping? Maybe I'll try to steal a bunk and throw in some cash? I'll figure that out a little later.

FWIW, I'll be bringing my camera (but not my Jeep)

We agree up until the 9k lift thing. I've been looking at different lifts for pad requirements and the difference between the 7k and 9k isn't much, the differences in the 9k to the 12k/14k is huge. Everything just jumps in size.

For Mark, that one on NEOW would be adequate. I'm not sure where I was going with my 1st post about it. I guess it was that I wouldn't buy something new that size (maybe for the price he's asking though). I'd rather overbuild and not have to worry about it ever.
Do you read the forums?
In all fairness, you've said that a few times already. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm brewing up a pretty mean turd right now. I'm also eating beans. I think I'll stand 6 feet away from the toilet and bend over and see if I can shoot this thing right in there.

Not true. I said it once (in 2009). Last year I never said 'yes,' I was stuck on 'maybe.'

If my DW wasn't so bad then, I'd have been there too...
