THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You'll have to bring a some to NAC fest :shhh:

Sounds like fun. Have you ever brewed beer?

We even have a 40+ year old box of unused mason jars.

Not from scratch, done a couple kit brews that turned out OK. I'd like to get into it someday but I really don't have the time or resources to really devote to it now.

The still we're using was built by my friend's grandfather way back in the day; he was a pipefitter at a shipyard. It's really about as complicated as you can possibly make that style of still. Completely fabricated from scratch out of copper sheet & tubing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have no problem doing it if people say it's no big deal.

The bolts and bits were cheap too (<$20 total) so I'll just get 7/16" stuff.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you tatds need to make sure your ubolts are tight, thats why you keep killing center pins, i run harder then everyone here(with the exception of chris and sam) and have yet to kill a center pin

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Gay sauce.

I already bought all the 3/8" stuff.

I'd also have to buy a 21/32 drill bit to clear the bolt head in the UBE.

You're relying on a 3/8 bolt to keep the springs aligned with 40" tires running ultra low gears in a D60 axle.... good luck with that.

Get a spare set of center pins....

I already want to change the name of my build thread to Project Ghettosynchronous Orbit.

I'm going to drop in a 440 and then whoop your ass at Line Mtn on my leaf springs.

Bitch.

:D

You don't wheel a Jeep long enough to even begin to have a say here. It goes without saying that the u-bolts have to be tight. You guys have seen me... do you really think I have trouble tightening my u-bolts??

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

you been wheelin the same unibody for a baziliion years, obviously you not as cool as us

I think Rob is right here. The pin is just an alignment guide and isn't what keeps everything together. If the U-bolts are tight, pin size is irrelivant.

I'd still carry spares, in Colin's case... 40's are big.

I think my CTD would disagree with your first statement.

Center pin head sheared right the XXXX off when I hit the curb and bent the spindle.

Thanks for catching it Andy, ordered some 7/16" stuff from McMaster. I'll just hit WTtool on Saturday.

Dude, you bent the friggin spindle. It's HUGE. I'm not surprised the center pin sheared off in that case. And if you put your MJ in a similar circumstance, you're going to shear the center pin then, too. It's the cases where nothing goes wrong but the center pin shearing that the U-bolts weren't tight enough.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Plenty of people bend spindles, granted mine was pretty spectacular.

It's big sure, but also pretty thin.

My MJ is also going to weigh over 1000 lbs more than my XJ did by the time I'm done.

Safe > Sorry

Right, and if you bend a spindle, I wouldn't be surprised to see other things go wrong with the vehicle (for example, blowing a 70psi tire right off the bead )

How thin are they on D80s? 3/16 to 1/4? I never really looked at that part of my D70 all that closely.

Yeah, that is what I would think too, but I'm telling you it has happened to me. I broke like two sets of 5/16's center pins, but only bent 3/8's pins. I never had a leaf pack slide much, only enough to break/bend the pins. The u-bolts kept everything in place. Maybe its the low gears... this was on 4.56's w/ a 4:1.

run crappy tires, thats my plan

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Per BillaVista on D70 spindles (which is what my D80 uses since it's SRW).

OD 1.957
ID 1.630

So wall thickness is 0.1635 so less than 3/16"
