Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Adam I say go for it Lohmann doesnt even use cash but pays his CC bill in full every month... As long as you stay on top of it and dont let yourself get into a big debt youll be fine

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I like basket cases that start out cheap and then nickle and dime me to death :roflmao: you started with a much better property and are building what will definitely be a much better house, there is no way I could pull that off on my budget.
Eh, I have a ~2 year projection going. In that time you'll have a closed up home with no/little debt and I'll be beginning my 30year mortgage. Not something I'm happy about, but it's the only way I can get something close to what I want.

Oh, I guess that's reasonable... I still hate credit cards though :laugh2:

yea so do i.

Only reason I want CC is fir online buying and gas. I hate putting my debit info on the webz for obvious reasons.

this. my parents keep yelling at me for it, and my dad keeps bugging me about getting a CC to build credit. i'll use it for gas and buying stuff online.

so basically, isntead of paying however much for alloys and an ox on my debit card, i'll put it on my CC, and when the bill comes, i'll just pay it all off.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh, Chris, when you relocated your battery did you just use a block of UHMW with some bolts through it as posts for the starter, winch, etc.?

I think I saw that from you on the Pirate TOTM.

Yeah, actually two pieces of 3/8" stacked. I drilled thru-holes on the first piece to put carriage bolts through, then drilled the second one to clear the heads of the carriage bolts. This is so you can bolt it flat and not have the heads ground out.

Across the top side I just put a piece of sheetmetal and tightened down nuts on top of it to draw the carriage bolts through. Basically turns it into a positive bus block.

I'll be amazed if they turn me down for something when I have 0 debt with my salary.

without a major credit card no one will give you a loan, regardless of the cash you bring in.

I've had my checking account with the same bank for over 10 years now...my checks get direct-deposited there, and I've never once overdrawn. When I went to apply for my truck loan 3.5 years ago I still had to have my father co-sign on it because of my lack of credit history.

I don't really understand why credit cards are that evil, even with a reasonable interest rate. Like I said...I didn't want to spend the money to go out to KOH 2009, only to wheel on shitty-ass Iroks. I didn't exactly have $1500 sitting around to drop on tires either. I applied for a credit card through my bank, got one with a $12k limit and a pretty reasonable interest rate (I think ~7% or so), and used that to get the tires. Then I paid a shit-ton more than the minimum every month over a period of 6-8 months, and that was that. I've used it since to meet racing deadlines or whatever with the same philosophy.

No different than getting my truck loan, or anything else like that IMO. The interest is just a penalty for instant gratification, something you need to figure into how badly you want/need whatever you wanna buy.

thats how i feel about it. this way i can have the money to build the truck, and still have cash around if i need to fix something that broke, get paint, hardware, cutoff wheels, etc.. rather than just dropping my bank account to say 100 dollars for 2 weeks....

i get some pretty good rates since i work for a bank, so i'm going after work to one of the branches.

I think I'm going to move my battery to the bed.

Sounds good to me. I think I'm going to do this:

Bolt head > UHMW > Inner fender panel > UHMW > sheetmetal/nuts. If you can picture that.

We'll see about that. I was hoping to move in around Christmas, that clearly did not happen.

Makes sense. I just know I suck at managing money beyond the "throw it all in a savings account and try to ignore the fact it is there so it stays there" part, so I stay away from credit cards. I KNOW I would get myself in trouble with them.

EDIT: this is why I hate Craigslist

hi, saw your ad on craigslist for the jeep cherokee and I'm interested...
A couple questions -
* do you still have it?
* Is it a cherokee or a grand cherokee? I hate to ask this, but the last
guy I tried to buy a cherokee off of was selling a grand cherokee and we
just wasted each other's time, so I want to make sure it's a regular
cherokee before going any further.
* what kind of accident? Rear-ended? front end damage? I need most of
the front to be in good shape, doesn't matter to me if the rear doors and
everything behind them is trash though.
* speaking of doors, 2 door or 4 door? Manual or power windows?
* what color? Anything goes, but it'd be awesome if it's dark red
metallic (chili pepper red)
* auto or manual transmission?
* how much are you asking?
* would I be able to slap a plate on it and limp it back to my shop or
should I find out if I can borrow a trailer off a friend?

reply, TWO DAYS later:
idiot said:
not a grand four door front end accident call me <number>

So let's see, what did they answer?
* clearly they still have it.
* not a grand, good.
* four door, good.
* front end accident, did you even read my damn email? I want the front end in one piece!

What didn't they answer?
* color?
* auto or manual?
* how much?
* would I be able to limp the damn thing home?

:twak::twak::twak: why the hell should I call this dumbass if they can't spend 30 seconds to answer read and answer simple questions?

Exactly why I still don't have a credit card.

If I cant buy it with my wad of cash, I cant buy it, period.

This can also be a very bad thing when you need to go apply for stuff; worse than having a credit card with a very low or zero balance.

Street cred > cred score

I still see 0 need for a credit card except for emergencies.

Like a $350 tow bill out of a lake 50 miles outside of the closet town :gee:

I always try to go through paypal when I do anything.

Speaking of which, paypal me money so I can order tube adapters.

Apparently, a PVTA bus rolled in Amherst. Everyone's facebook status is whining about the ice out there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'll do it tomorrow, I get my federal tax return.

:thumbup:

Get it to me early and I'll order them right away and if he ships out in time, we should see them by the end of the week.

I just drove down for NH this morning in it. I was gunna go skiing at Gunstock with Johnny, but the weather was just as crappy up there. Theres was some fresh snow around that now has rain piling up top of it and making a mess.

Also, I guess a van went over the gaurdrail on I95 in Foxboro yesterday. They had to land a medivac heli on the highway, my neighbor was stuck in the traffic directly across from it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There was a car facing the wrong direction parked on the line between the two right lanes of i290 westbound right by 495 this morning. Traffic was backed up on 290 eastbound at the same spot due to 495 south being a disaster and all the jackwipes trying to get into the exit ramp at the last minute..

So I hear someone among us is a new Civic owner...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah NH is a shit show right now. I just had to scrape a half inch of ice off my drive way and 3 inches of ice out of the parking spots for my mom and sis by hand. I dont even want to drive to work today. I live at the top of a hill and at the bottom on both sides there is a really sharp corner that everyone slides off the road every day.
