THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

He was adding up the price of what his D300 setup would cost, including driveshafts. I was pointing out that we've been discussing home-brew driveshafts a lot lately.

DOM costs money, between $50-100 for 2.25 x .250 w.

He got the price right.

The faster you come help me build a cage:

A. The more beer I will supply you with
B. The sooner you'll get to nerf me at Line Mt.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Chris, that is a pretty bitchin' design you came up with. I kinda like the over/under modification CartsXJ came up with, but with another guide rod over top of the ram, so basically just take your design and rotate it 90 degrees around the ram centerline. I think it'd fit in the space he has available better and still have the same strength benefits.

Another thing - unless the tie rods are the same length as the TTB beams, won't it still have a bit of toe change as the suspension cycles?

Anthony - I've used my hoist 3 times now for engines and a few times for other stuff. It leaks down slowly so I wouldn't leave anything hanging from it for a long period of time, but it's fine otherwise. I paid 160 dollars for it and the load leveler and got a 3 year acts of god and acts of stupidity warranty. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I have also done some really stupid things with it while holding up well above its rated load (500lbs max at full extension, I had a ~520lb 4.0, a ~150lb aw4+TC, and a ~50lb np231 on it) involving bouncing and all 4 back wheels coming off the ground, it was entirely supported on the 2 wheels at the very ends of the legs. No damage and no noticeable flexure.

You're more than welcome to come down and help on Sunday.

:D
We'll see. I'm sure I'll chat with you later in the week to discuss.
Hilarious.
I thought so! :D
Who has what for an engine hoist? I know Ken has the 2 ton HF one and it seemed to do alright, but I wasn't totally sold on it. Is there another one I should consider?
This is what I have, just black: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/we...ALUE3-_-VALUE4&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=4579652

Watch for specials, almost every other month they go on sale for $20 or so less.

This is perfectly fine in woodworking, no so much in vehicle cage construction.
When I'm done with my MJ, everyone's going to want D60-ISUs and hydroboost.
Not me!

I originally wanted to do two guide rails paired horizontally with the ram riding on top, kind of a triangle arrangement when viewed from the side.

It appears that someone might have sniped me on the design though - if so, oh well. Fun while it lasted. :)

Yes you're right, which is why the tie rod mounts on the ram/carriage are offset.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmm, looks just like the HF one but not orange.
This one? http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-foldable-shop-crane-35915.html

Probably is made in the same Chinese plant.
man its wickid nice out, t-shirt weather. im going to go for a jog after work.
Yup, super nice.
For once I don't look like a fool driving down the road with my arm hanging out the window. The past couple months I've been getting odd looks from other drivers, same thing happens every year around this time. Haha.

Either way that's damn innovative. I just finished reading through the end of it.

I like it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So who coming up for free food Saturday? I know Colin is being lame.
Nooooope. Working on my Jeep all day.

i'll be running 5.13s on 35s... but with the aw4 the extra low range would def be nice. 513s on 35s will prob be around the same feel as i had with the 456s and 33s.

i'd run the doubler, but if its as expensive as anthony said, its out of my budget at the moment. and shifting back to high? hell i do that all the time anyway.
I want to run a twin sticked 300 after I get tons. But I wont be going 4:1 for the simple fact that with 4.88's and 33's I over power my brakes in 4 low on my 231 behind an aye dub four. So I figure 37's and 5.38s will be similar-ish.

Cliff notes: Do a 300 after axles with out 4:1

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh yeah. Last night I spent several hours working on a severely janky 95 ZJ for a friend of a friend of a friend, who has no idea how to manage finances, is going through bankruptcy, and bought it without having any idea how a car works or having it inspected by a mechanic.

Things I learned:
* it is a good thing I am not a Toyota driver, because the throttle stuck and for almost a quarter of a second I wasn't sure what to do. Then I tossed it in neutral and got the throttle unstuck while it bounced off the rev limiter.
* I had forgotten what deathwobble is like. It's 100% stock and got some pretty awesome wobble going when I hit a pothole on the highway test driving it, I suspect the balljoints.
* brake lines on a 5.2 ZJ are even less fun than they are on a 4.0 XJ.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

, Adam i got a clocking ring from my Atlas that i will no longer be using not sure if it will work or not

Ive also got an extra clocking ring that came with my Stak :dunno:

Put a D30 out back and watch it grenade.

ultra light buggy, LP30 rear & HP30 front with 33-35's

I've heard a few stories of 60's blowing up in front of doublers/super low range Atlas/Stak/etc.

Ooo Ooo, pick me!!! I wanna join!!

I went through 3 NP231's behind my AX15 and I'm on doubler housing number 4, and I still can't really talk badly about it.

And how many of those did it take to figure out the front d-shaft was too long :gee:

Im being lame-er :D

You need better brakes.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Start reading towards the bottom here:

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=829346&page=53

Basically Corey wasn't happy with the steering on his TTB YJ, and was gonna cut it all off and start over. He decided to do a mini contest in his build thread that whoever came up with the best idea for the redesign would get the co-driver spot for next year's race.

Good thing I've been thinkin of my own TTB setup for a while now. :D
Finally got a chance to read that thread. Nice idea and good discussion.

I absolutely despise those shaft collars for that purpose though.
