The most I've heard is .383 but that seems like a dumb number that hasn't been verified.

Spacers aren't 'normally' anything, it just depends how much they offset the ring mounting surface on the numerically higher ratio carriers and is likely to be different for each axle.

I don't see the big deal either. I looked all over PBB and found tons of people whining about it but no documented failures.

Right, they are usually pretty thin, 1/8-3/16, if I had to guess.

colin can you just ditch the tone ring and run thick 60 gears? gotta figure what im gonna do, may just get a frt carrier from someone as i need to get 35 spline side gears

Pretty sure you just ditch the tone ring and run normal gearsets.

That's fawkin cool. Make sure to get the right length bolts.

Yeah I'm not 100% sure on it though since I'm getting an ARB anyway.

The carrier might be specific to using the tone ring.

There's a guy on Pirate that has geared his and he said he just ditched it.

Just wanted to give GearMan huge props for his help.
We DID make a spacer & did everything listed below, worked amazing, we have a great contact pattern. (using 7.17's)
Our machinist brought it down to .300 & also machined the welds for a nice tight fit.
Thanks again GearMan, thought this is great info for the D70 owner who cant find a spacer :smokin:

So, it needs to be .300 and I should probably get my carrier into a lathe to extend the pilot.

Anthony you could also just cut your losses with this axle and find another like Colin or Rob did. I'm sure reassembled you could get your $50 back. Sometimes it isn't worth using a free or cheap axle just because you have it. Then you'll save money not having to convert to discs, cheaper gears, cheaper carriers, etc.
