I got to work at about 745 (first time before 0800 in weeks). I should have time to stop by the JL dealer either at lunch or after work.

I did some more poking and prodding into the hardware that I have and I'm sorta confused on the electronics side of things. Someone prod me in the correct direction (I'm betting it being Adam, Ken, or Chris).

My sub's amp is rated at 250W RMS and is recommended to drive a 1.5-4 ohm load. I spoke with JL over the phone and they assured me that the volume output of the amp driving a 1.5 ohm load would be the same as a 4 ohm load. :huh: Don't most amps increase output when the load is decreased?

And the other electronics question that confuses me. One of my 4 channel amps is rated for 75W rms x 4 @ 4 ohm. If I bridge channels 3 and 4 (and the manual explicitly states only channels 3 and 4) I will get 300W rms @ 4 ohm from the bridged channel and still get my 75W rms x2 from channels 1 &2. How's that possible?

power transfer is highest when the thevenin impedance (including inductance/capacitance aka reactance) of the driving source (the amp) is the complex conjugate of the impedance of the load (the speaker.) Audio stuff is rated in strange ways that confuse me though, they give an impedance but don't list what portion is resistive and what portion is reactive or (alternatively) give the phase angle. I'm pretty sure it changes vs frequency, as well.

Basically, I'm saying I know the theory but the way they spec stuff, it doesn't make sense to me at all. Good luck. I suggest blingin' cable and gold plated terminals and lots of chrome and capacitors and lots of things with big model numbers, that is what most people seem to do to fix audio problems.

Some manufacturers actually supply an impedance & phase v frequency, most just list a blanket "this is our impedance" like you mentioned.

Fawk you Best Buy. They want me to leave them my laptop for a couple of weeks so they can send it out and get my battery warrantied (its less then a year old and is still covered under all the policy stuff I got with it). I was gunna bitch and moan and see if I could get the dude to just give me another battery but I'll deal with that after I get back for vaca.

its cold out.

Was -14 when I started my truck this morning. It's -4 now.
That fuel I got some the place down the road from Sam's must have been bad. My truck wouldn't rev and threw a low fuel pressure code this morning. It's in my garage warming up now, I'm gonna let it warm up, add some PS diesel treatment, swap the filter, and hopefully be good.

I generally don't fill up at stations that don't regularly look like they sell diesel for this very reason. Unfortunately I didn't have a choice Saturday night and now I was forced to take the day off because of it.

Hey, that guy never got back to me in that suspension thread. Oh well.

And that's why I fill up at Mobil.

People like to make fun of me for it but I've never once had a cold weather fuel problem.

Prime always gets up above 8 psi no matter how cold.
