THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

They have sheets?
Don't get galvanized stuff.

FYI, Pennzoil = Quaker State = Shell, which owns Jiffy Lube.
Interesting.

Yeah, they have sheets. Home Depot stocks 6x18 sheets iirc, Lowes stocks 12x18 and 24x18 (I think.) I did my entire rear floor with 24x18.

Colin, Home Depot is going to rape you on sheet metal pricing. You could easily buy a 4x8 sheet for what they'll charge you for a few small pieces.

One thing I'd recommend, because I saw the option of trailer fenders mentioned as well - flat spots rule. You can mount stuff to flat areas. You can sit/stand on them. Curved things, not so much. I don't know what your plans are but I'd recommend doing a trapezoid or box for the wheelwell instead of something curved.

16-gauge is probably fine, maybe a little on the thin side (less than 1/16" thick). I'd maybe go a gauge or two thicker if the cost isn't prohibitive.
Also correct. It cost me around 150 dollars for the amount I used to redo my floors, but the only times I was available was after the sheetmetal shop closed and I needed it yesterday. Also, at the metal warehouse you have to take a whole sheet or whatever is available on the drop stack usually, and I couldn't fit a whole sheet in the MJ.

Actually, Colin, if you want to split a 4x8 of 12, 14, or 16ga let me know.

I would do a trapezoidal wheel well with the top inner corner sectioned off at 45 degrees, which involves more complex bends and cuts but looks better and is friendlier to spare tires.

EDIT:
Did they use a 100x digital zoom then render the pixels and pull the plate number off a reflection of a lipstick container laying in a puddle?

ENHANCE! ENHANCE! ENHANCE!

man I wish it was that easy.

This was in 1999. They're probably lucky the VHS tape didn't eat itself before they got to view it.

See above.

I'm sorry, Microsoft Forefront Client Security, but I'm going to kill your process. I don't feel like listening to my harddrive chattering away for the next 45 minutes, and I'd like those resources back.

Corporate IT does not like me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

dunno about your area but I usually hit up sullivan metals in Worcester.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah my problem is I don't have the time to go to a steel supplier.

I know there's Turner Steel near me, but again I don't have the time to get there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh yeah, any of you New England guys have a NP242 taking up excess space? I'd kinda like to get power to the front axle in my 5.9 ZJ again, sans viscous coupler...

I think Mark has one... it comes with a free handful of metal shavings and is pre-disassembled :laugh2:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hey Ken, I'll have to take some measurements to see how much sheetmetal I'm going to need.

I have a feeling I'll need more than half a sheet to do everything I need to do.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

:dunno: This is my town!!! I cant really think of any other lifted/modded XJ's here other then mine. Well, there is that guy Steve, but thats a different story. There is a red 4dr near the high school that might have a BB on like 30/31's.

just got a lil more info from my dad...from dedham...white xj with a black hood...definitely lifted

i know ive never seen it around

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Where the hell is the nearest steel supplier.

Theres a place in Avon industrial park across the street from Rubgy (a supplier my dad uses) that is a sheetmetal place. My dad said he bought sheets there before.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin - ok, let me know.

Anthony - just saw the pics on fb, how the hell did you get the door skins off and did you have to weld them back on? How are you gonna avoid rust? I hate working on sheetmetal, hope those were like bolted or pop riveted on not welded or crimped on.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That sound system better give eargasms.

The work doesn't look too bad other than the door skins (why the hell did you have to do that??)

Care to share how much you have into it? Probably better you didn't so we don't start saying you'll REALLY never be done with your XJ :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Guessing here, but he removed the outer doorskins?
I'd love to see him out driving it like that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm gonna buy some coffee and weld pieces of crap to pieces of crap and drill holes in a cement floor, lag bolts!

do what i do and go make friends with the welding shop that is a half mile down the road from you.

he gets me whatever i want for his cost. and i have it within 2 days

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Magic wand mig welder in use today. Close my eyes, pull a trigger, bacon music, open eyes, perfect bead!? Lame.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Stick welders are where it's at. Blasting boogers, blowin' holes, it's the only way to weld.
