THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Lockwashers suck. Good choice.

Actually, unless you've ordered them already, go with fine thread wherever possible. I just ordered fine thread 5/8" bolts from there for mine:

91257A829 Grade 8 Alloy Steel Hex Head Cap Screw, Zinc Yellow-Plated, 5/8"-18 Thread, 4" Length, Packs of 5

90949A112 Black-Phosphate Grade G Steel Flange Locknut, 5/8"-18 Thread Size, 15/16" W, 21/32" H Overall, Packs of 10

The fine thread will give you smoother torque when tightening (think of it as more 'gear reduction' in the thread). I don't see a problem with the flanged lock nuts. Granted both of these decisions are based on the number of link bolts I've had come loose this year.

Yeah, I remember your story about lockwashers hence why I don't plan on using them.

I already have some Lowe's special 5/8-11 bolts for the suspension. Does it really matter?

I just like flanged locknuts for no apparent reason :D

As neat as this would be I'm calling BS right now.

You can call BS all you want, it was her idea.

Her lease runs out in August I think, so we'll probably start looking over the summer. She had the money saved up to pay the car off completely, but now can buy an XJ and then put the rest of the money towards school.

I'd rather support local business.

Huh? Didn't you buy your driveshafts from Jess instead of Tom Woods (the guy that supports Fall Crawl every year and was even THERE last year?)

:D

The downpipe is 2.5" and continues until it hits the front of the cat then it necks down and the rest is 2.25".

You sure? I'm going to measure tonight because I could have sworn that both XJs I had were 2.25" all the way through. There were definitely no neck downs on them.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So today was a relative milestone in my life...I now have a law firm on retainer for the first time. Sure wasn't the first thing I wanted to spend $5k on.

But, things are looking optimistic, and at least y'all will have a really good story time out of this one. When your lawyer stops writing on his pad, stares at you, and says "wait...say that again? That happened?"...then describes your case as a defense attorney's dream...it's gotta be good.
Good luck dude... hope everything goes well. I have retained two lawyers at this point, a traffic court one in Princeton NY ($300, he got a $300 surcharge tossed entirely and my record says "failure to observe traffic control device" rather than "93mph in a 65 zone", which cost me $180 or so) and my real estate lawyer ($500) who saved my ass when I tried to buy a house with a cursed title, and then made sure everything went smoothly when the purchase actually went through while I was 2000 miles away. Both well worth it. I really hope I never end up spending that much on a lawyer, 5k really stings.

I just did an 8.8 for a friend of mine, to put in his mustang. They're easy. We may even still have the "setup" bearings laying around (read: old bearings ground out with a dremel).

Have it on an axle stand, have all the parts ready w/a press nearby, and I'll probably gear anything for a case of beer.

Just make sure to buy the actual Ford Motorsports gears if you do decide to jump into it...makes setup much easier. There's a FoMo factory retail shop about 20 minutes south of me if you'd need a parts pickup. Just sayin'. :D
You are NOT making this decision easier :twak: :roflmao:

Errrr, THAT was an interesting drive to work. I was running late and decided that what the hell, I'm already late, might as well take the long way and look at a house I may be interested in... Went to look at the house, stopped at honey dew to get my coffee, started to pull out of my parking spot, and got waved down by a woman who asked for directions to the Braintree plaza. I gave her general directions but couldn't give the exact exit. We struck up a bit of a convo and she more or less came out and said that I must be a morning person since I was being friendly and shit early in the AM before my coffee.

She then proceeded to ask what I do for work. I told her engineering & she said it must pay well (ok?). I agreed but said I work at a customer site and they tend to be a PITA and bitch a and and said that can lead to long hours (shits been hitting the fan and I have been doing easily 60+ hour weeks for the past 2 or so months). She repeated that everyone she knows in engineering makes pretty good money, laughing about it just making small talk.

She then proceeded to say that I'm not like most other engineers she has met... that I'm actually sociable and friendly :gee: and asked if I wanted to pick up some part time work. Apparently she works at a local financial firm and they are looking to fill part time managerial positions and some customer facing positions which deal with local engineers/engineering firms at times. We exchanged numbers and went on our ways.

TL;DR: I think I just got offered a job by a woman who randomly waved me down to ask for directions. Apparently I'm sociable and shit. :D
good luck, if you decide to go after it.

So I'm bored and sipping on some Jack Daniel's Green Label, which is kinda nice, so here're some other insights.
Well, if you win, generally you're awarded the lawyer fees and court fees, correct? Or is that just in TV?:gag:

I've never had Green Label. It can't be bad though haha. Have you ever had The Balvenie 12 yr?

Sucks for you!! Probably that crappy replacement downpipe's fault. My factory one is 2.5" :moon:
How typical, Ross helping out someone else whilst not caring about getting it done correctly.

Sweet, was she hot?

They are 2.25 from the down pipe to the tail pipe from the factory.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

This was the plan for my '99 until Colin broke the front 44

FIFY :D

:bs:

My downpipe doesnt neckdown or anything, like I said before is 2.25" from the header flange to the little pre-cat/resonator then 2.5" back, downpipe and cat. Just went and measured it since its sitting inside my container.

Red jeep, on the other hand, is 2.25" all the way.

I'll add you to the :bs: list too now

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

good luck, if you decide to go after it.
Think I might give her a call and see what the offer is. If I can pick up an account with them and work a few hours here and there I might be willing to do so... but if she wants like 20-30 hours per week I won't be able to do that; at least not until it eases up around my normal job and gets back down to the 40-50 hour per week range. But hell, if the pay is good enough and she wants 20-30 hours per week maybe I would be willing to start working weekends. Idk yet.

Sweet, was she hot?
Looked to be late 20s or early 30s, definitely good looking. As she walked away from my car I was thinking that I should give her a call and ask if she wanted to grab a drink at the local bar and discuss the job a bit more but then I noticed she was with a guy :thumbdn:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hence why I said both MY jeeps.

Mark's is a 99 just like mine so I was basing it off that. My guess is the replacement pipe they gave him is just 2.25 throughout. It should have at least had a larger end so it could fit up to the 2.5" cat

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I don't give a shit what list I'm on. You're wrong.

My header and exhaust fits :moon:

Plus, I already measured it to verify 2.5" so I made sure I wasnt talking out my ass ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

We'll have to wait for Mark then.

If he got a replacement downpipe, I wonder if it had that resonator thingy mabob on it.

Maybe he got one for an OBD-1

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do it. You're goings with a 44 front to right? 5.13s or you're ghey:angel:
yeah... I'm still trying (and failing) to keep this stupid thing budget though... and the 8.8 already has 4.10s in it.

:dunno: that could explain it. I wonder which style hanger mount it has on it then. Wasnt obd1 the half moon and obd2 a round piece?

Sounds promising, good luck.

He could just be a business partner :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

My 91 is a half moon and my 96 is a round peg, but I'm not sure where the split was exactly. I do know that it coincides with where they went from a bolt-on flange for the cat inlet (half moon style) to a clamped/welded cat inlet (round peg style.)

Oh, and a friend's 92 was half moon also.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hence why I said both MY jeeps.

I've never looked at one newer than a '92 so I have no idea what those are.

But I was pretty damn sure my '91 and '92 were 2.25" all the way.
I'm aaaalmost positive that my 98 had 2.25 the whole way. I have it sitting in the little shed thing, I can measure it tonight.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mine both had square flanges with 4 bolts on the crossmember for the downpipe.

Half moon for the pipe to slide into the rubber mount.

Well, if you win, generally you're awarded the lawyer fees and court fees, correct? Or is that just in TV?:gag:

Here's the range of things I'm looking at:

- loss of license for 14 months, 7 points, thousands of dollars in surcharges, mandatory classes, in-car breathalyzer starter interlock (installed at my expense).

or

- everything thrown out due to lack of probable cause for the traffic stop.

Given the first, $5k is going to be just another piece in the pie. Given the second, I'd consider it money well spent.

If everything were to be thrown out due to lack of probable cause, then I may have grounds to bring a civil suit against the city and/or police department to recover fees & damages. However the cop in this case already looks like an incompetent asshole as it is, and seeing as this is the next town over from where I live and I need to drive through there, it's really low on the list of my concerns.

Seriously, this is the most ambiguous and strange DUI case I've ever heard of. Once I get the police report & discovery I'll be able to clarify everything. A lot of it is going to hinge on the police report and whether the guy wrote it honestly or in a way to try and cover his ass, because it's very possible to tell this same story a few different ways.

It's nothing fancy:

Jack Daniel's Green Label is a lighter, less mature whiskey with a lighter color and character. The barrels selected for Green Label tend to be on the lower floors and more toward the center of the warehouse where the whiskey matures more slowly.

Just nice to sip on. I tend to prefer bourbon to scotch but I enjoy both (and yes, I know Jack Daniel's isn't technically a bourbon).

I would agree about the business partner thing except when she said I should get in touch I asked if she had a card. She said "no, I don't have one on me now since I'm just heading out shopping". So unless they both just happened to share the day off and want to go shopping together :dunno:
