THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

google is XXXXing amazing.

i'm watching close encounters of the third kind, and i wanted to see where the movie took place.

i begin typing "close encounters of the third kind" into the address bar (using chrome on osx, so the addy bar is google search) and by the time i simply type in "cl" the first result is imdb on the movie, second the wiki.

google's algorithm's include everything.... recent popular searches... even tv showtimes. last week i was watching boardwalk empire, wanted to double check when prohibition started, i only typed in "'p" and the first result was the wiki for prohibition. XXXXing INSANE.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i want to go see where jamanji was made, especialy where the stampede happened in that town

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

dane sure is scruffy and alec especially chubby off camera.

Yes, and dane sucks at football, and alex has a gun. But that first picture in that link, I'm the one in the black shirt in the background that the camera is focused on.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Darn, all this talk of wheeling I guess it was a bad time to pull my rear axle out.

Oh well, I'll have a super-duper-extra-cool-neato pinion guard soon and all will be better.

I reallllly hope to see you on the tenth :)

You need a 3/4 inch thick clocking ring. The d300 has a longer input shaft.

Lame, i'm not buying that. Back to finding a T18.

if all you need is a ring to space it 3/4" I gotcha covered doood!

Whatcha got? I STILL owe you for the tranny itself. I need to find a 4.0 flywheel then buy a clutch kit which doesn't bother me since i'll transfer it to my comanche when I swap it out for a T18. The rest seems bolt in. Oh and I need a dana 300.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

bracket making has stopped holes are drilled to 1/2 but i can not find my 9/16 bit anywhere wich really sucks

my 9/16 drill bit magicly appered on the cowl of the jeep yay

SuperOCD-machine-shop-supervisor speaking.

Drilling out a 1/2" hole with a 9/16" bit is only gonna prematurely wear your 9/16" bit. The corners get destroyed and then you wind up with a bit that cuts awesome through about 1/4" of material until it gets to the outer edges and doesn't work anymore.

For a 1/2" or 9/16" hole, don't drill your pilot much past 1/4". Let the large bit do most of the material removal; you'll wind up with a more-true hole (the bit won't chatter as much) and you'll use most of the face of the bit, wearing it evenly and with the right speed you wind up with a 'built-up-edge' situation which keeps the leading edge in good shape.

Trying to resharpen the outer edge of a 9/16" bit is a pain in the ass, and when I ran the shop at school I used to yell at kids all the time for a) making their pilot holes too big and b) running the drill press too fast. Get a 1/4" hole there to locate the tip, slow your drill press down, and let that m'fer dig.

NP435s are enormous.

That is all.

Given that the NV4500 is pretty much a derivative but a bit longer, I feel your pain. The top shift cover in mine is shoved up against what's left of the trans tunnel and it still hangs down quite a bit.

And for y'alls morning funny, I present: the guy next to me in the airport bar, who ended up in the row behind me on the airplane.

"Don't worry, I'll be asleep before we take off. It's not you, it's the 3 beers and Xanax that I took before we boarded."

...

"So, you're from NJ too?"

girl next to him nods.

"Well, the rent where I am costs me an arm and a leg."

dude is legit missing his left arm. no joke, not even kidding.

"Actually, my arm belongs to the US Government. I got arrested and they gave me the choice between going to prison or joining the military. I picked the Marines...I got to leave 6 months early, but it was a hell of a severance package."

Again, no shit. not kidding. this was the conversation in the row behind me.

I'll have a jack & coke, please. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I worked out 3 options for my Honcho. Anyone who's had even remotely close final ratios with the respective type of transmission let me hear how you liked it because right now at 18:1 final drive in low and first with an auto sucks.

T18(64:1 final drive) ~$1000 installed
-This is what I plan to have and will basically need to save up for it and is out of the picture for now. It could be pieced together cheaper than this if I can find some original parts but probably not more than a few hundred cheaper.

AX15(41:1 final drive) ~$400
-This price is assuming I can find a dana 300 for cheap. The tranny could potentially explode but it would be in there only till I could piece together a T18. A dana300 can be sold off easily enough to recoup costs after the swap and the clutch components would be saved for my comanche.

TH400(Current final drive-18:1 and can be brought to 25:1)~$100
Super cheap obviously and i'm going to work towards this anyway since I plan on have 4.10 gears and the dana 20 with the lower gears will obviously be bolted to the T18. So this isn't actually a route you need to convince me to take.

Basically does it seem advantageous to ever consider swapping in an AX15?

I'm at about 50.5:1 final drive if my maths were right, I like it but definitely haven't wheeled enough to give great input; I can tell you its about 100000000000000x better than when I had stock gearing (~31.8:1 final drive). :dunno:

But more importantly if you don't end up using the ax-15 and it's in good shape, you want to sell it? And if so how much?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Damn, I figured it had a use lined up but it was worth asking.

Guess I will take a drive to the local yards next wkend and try to find one to pull... and if I don't find one I will finally man up and pay the $250 to have one pulled from the (very) local JY that doesn't let you pull your own stuff. I guess $250 isn't bad since it includes a 90 day warranty. :dunno:

I love airport bars. No regulars; everybody is in transit to somewhere, and most people have stories. I have no problem talking to anyone so it's usually a pretty good source of amusement for me.

The pricing usually leaves a bit to be desired, though. :thumbdn:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Carmelo, do you plan on regearing the axles? If not, I would say go for the lowest gear ratio you can get. When I had a FDR of 48 on small 34's it was nice. You could get enough wheelspin for mud and enough torque for rocks. 25:1 vs 41:1 is very significant. I say do it. D300's can be had cheaply enough.

I'm eagerly awaiting a return PM on PBB...

Nevermind the bars, but traveling alone. A few weeks ago when I flew from PVD to ANC and back I met so many people. Some were out of their minds, some were normal (and quite cool/cute too...)

Chris, I'm working on making a 231/300 doubler from scratch. Over the weekend I discovered that I can't machine the stock transmission shaft because it's just too hard for the lathe I have available. Other than DesertCJ (who has some old doubler shafts laying around), who would you recommend I contact for purchasing just a shaft?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anthony, stop wasting time and being cheap and spend the extra couple of bucks.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not being cheap right now, I was just asking who to contact... Also, I don't think that being cheap and being thrifty are the same thing. I didn't want to make my doubler kit from scratch because it was cheaper, although it is. I wanted to do it from scratch because I could. I'll be starting the flip kit soon, too.
