THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Given that the NV4500 is pretty much a derivative but a bit longer, I feel your pain. The top shift cover in mine is shoved up against what's left of the trans tunnel and it still hangs down quite a bit.

Do you have any pics of how low yours hangs? My shift tower wants to be where the lower HVAC box is (the one for the floor vents). I think I can unbolt it, block it off, and cap the vacuum lines though.

I have a feeling I'll have to make a trade off in the end. Pull the HVAC box and rework some of the firewall, or deal with the case hanging like 1" below the frame rails.

Anthony, stop wasting time and being cheap and spend the extra couple of bucks.

^This. Stop wasting time with it. You have bigger fish to fry, like the body :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I would use the money saved on the flip kit etc to start working on the body. The doubler is not what's going to slow his build down...

Colin, you planning on putting the dash back in or what? Looks like it might get a bit difficult.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not being cheap right now, I was just asking who to contact... Also, I don't think that being cheap and being thrifty are the same thing. I didn't want to make my doubler kit from scratch because it was cheaper, although it is. I wanted to do it from scratch because I could. I'll be starting the flip kit soon, too.
There is a time for being thrify and there is a time for not. This is a time for the later of the two.

He makes a good point. Given what you just did with an angle grinder you have a lot of body work to do.

The doubler is not what's going to slow his build down..
Really? How long has he been working on this one thing?
I can't talk much, my build took forever, but I didn't spend this much time on one thing/

Just picking on you Anthony, 'cause I can. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

If I could point out one thing on your build that took forever right in the beginning, it would be boring out the D60 spindles that you had rather than getting ones that just accepted the 35 spline shaft :moon:

Yes, I have been taking too long on this one thing. But I'm also trying to get it right and not hack it together.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I love airport bars. No regulars; everybody is in transit to somewhere, and most people have stories. I have no problem talking to anyone so it's usually a pretty good source of amusement for me.

thats why vegas was awesome. there were no regulars, and everyone wanted to bullshit with everyone. met some interesting people to say the least....

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm not trying to pick on you either Anthony. Going back, I should have just bought the Brown Dog kit only because I want to wheel and have plenty of other fab opportunities to build stuff.

Can't just bolt spindles onto a rear axle. You'd have to have a way to center them or your wheels won't run true/straight. They're welded onto the tubes.

No biggy, I just want to see you wheeling sooner than later

Yeah I know... Getting wheeling sooner is the name of the game, but I really don't mind taking the time to save some money. I really enjoy building stuff just as much as using it. Whatever... I want a beer.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

IMO. Building a homemade doubler is really only worth it if you're gonna ditch the weak link (NP231 case).

Ya know, just sayin. :D

As for the shaft. Duffy (guy who does the Box 4 Rox) sells them, but I don't know how much and he's hard to get ahold of. Dean @ Performance Cryogenics (66CJDean on Pirate) can make them. That's about all I know.

Colin - let me see what I can find.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Chris, did you just volunteer to make that for me? :D

I'll contact Dean. Thanks.

Judging from this pic, the bottom of the trans is a little less than an inch below the frame rails. The bottom of the rails each have a piece of 1x3 x .120 box tube to space everything down.

I guess my shift tower ends up further back...I still have the HVAC box & dash, and the shifter just hits the ashtray in 3rd gear.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks for the pic Chris. What was the reasoning behind spacing everything down? Only way to get the trans mount to work?

Yeah I think the NV4500 has the shift tower further back. Either way I don't mind losing floor vents, but I do want to keep the rest of the HVAC system.

I'll probably clean up/organize stuff tonight and take some measurements to check on my motor mount brackets.

3 week nights? A week and a half if you count waiting on the correct saws to come in at my local hardware store.

Good!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Looks like XJCrawler736 (Andy or whomever) on Pirate broke the bolts or whatever on his 4.0 recently.

I guess it's good I made some for mine, granted I'm sure I won't be putting it through the abuse him and Chris do. At least at first .
