THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's why I hate when everyone in here gets so gun-ho about making build threads. It is only going to end up with the idiot NAC people derailing it, and everyone else in the national forum thinking we are a bunch of redneck idiots.

QFT

you made a promise to me last night which you did not keep :bawl:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

In all seriousness though...those plates will take what, 2 days? Cheap insurance. A broken engine block sucks ass.

I'm a newb when it comes to fabricating anything. It took me, what, 3 weekends to get the front plating done when I'm sure it would take someone else one full day.

I got discouraged pretty fast when I was trying to figure out a way to find the height and distance off the block of the hole for the bolt that passes through the motor mount.

Making the flat plate for the bolts on the block is no big deal, but introducing that other plane makes me lose motivation. I was just trying to use a straight-edge to guesstimate it pretty close, not sure how exact it needs to be.

Why do I feel like that was directed at me?

Ken, this is what i saw in AK:

dang thats a long gas hose

I hope someone starts some e-drama in my thread.

i might be able to arrange that

if anyone's junk is rusted out, heres some panels for sale
http://nh.craigslist.org/pts/1956705830.html

you can get all sorts of panels from quadratec now. actually mark can get those doglegs that go behind the rear window too as well as 1/4 panels.....

Do you still have the stock motor mount brackets?

It is kind of an annoying process. I spent a lot of time swapping the flat plate and the stock brackets back and forth measuring stuff. I realized why I didn't have those measurements written down, and it's because I did a lot of it just on the fly with arbitrary references. I had the engine on a stand and made sure to keep it in the same spot while doing all this.

Basically it was like...install the stock bracket, and use a tape measure to get the height of the bolt hole from the ground. Take the stock bracket off, bolt the flat plate on, put the tape measure back, and then use the bottom edge of the flat plate as your new reference. So you've got the height that way. I think the bolt isn't parallel to the motor so make sure to check both holes.

Distance from the block...same thing. Stock mount on, measure out with a tape measure from some point on the engine block you can get to. Bracket off, flat plate on, tape measure again, using the surface of the flat plate as your new reference.

Placement front-to-back...same process, I think I used either an accessory bracket or the engine stand itself as the reference for the tape measure. Then put the flat plate on and just mark a vertical line where the pieces need to come out.

Leave everything tacked until you can test-fit the motor onto the bushings.

It was:D
Wasnt it over a year ago cardboard was taped to your rear 1/4 as a joke?

I figured someone would have a need, though. We are in N.E. and plagued by stupid sodium chloride.

They are from quadratec, but new in the box and 1/2 off.Thats the allure.

Edit;if you were just stating there are alot different panels being made now,it took me a second to get that.only a half cup of coffee in right now.

Definitely a deuce and a half of some sort. He has a hard top on the cab, I am jealous.

you can call me one or the other, but please not both at the same time.

I'd bore all the holes in the right places (yeah, easier said than done when measuring over two dimensions) and then use a depth gauge - a decent 30 dollar caliper has one built in.

I'm a tard, I should have thought of that. I think I'll take another crack at it one night this week. Tonight I'm stopping by the carwash to blast some parts clean.

Thanks again for your help

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh FWIW if anyone needs them ever I have been told that RC truck (in Brockton I think) sells XJ taillights for $10. At least my buddy said he got his there for $10, but that was at least 2-3 years ago so idk if anything has changed. Just figured it was worth mentioning since I was thinking about cheap body panels.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, at closer inspection I don't see an air cleaner on the passenger side front fender... I also don't think there's any way to have anything but a hardtop up there.

Colin, I'm sure you can figure it out. I'll be coming up that way to get my tanks someday soon, cough, cough. So maybe we could poke at it then.

Good luck getting your tanks done :D

Carmelo is filling my welding tank today.

I should post up pics of me trying to weld aluminum with my oxy/acy torch. It was fun

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, speaking of getting my tanks done, did he ever pick them up? That 6 pack I offered is going to become a 5 pack pretty soon.

How did welding aluminum go? I've gotta close up my 231...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anthony - it's the same cab as I have (the cab is common to the two vehicles.) You can run windshield down, completely open top, windshield up, open top, windshield up with a soft top on it (what I have), or windshield up with a hard top. I'd love to have a hard top, they are more waterproof and keep heat in better, but they run about double or triple what I paid for my soft top, plus shipping.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I figured it was the same cab. It is a military vehicle, after all.

Ok, good. At least he picked em up...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Welding the aluminum was hilarious. I had no idea what I was doing. I was just starting to understand it after wasting like 3 12" rods they give you with the kit.
