THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh, I'm a dumbass, I was like "why is he giving away axles... well still interesting" :dunce:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Sounds like a blast!
I thought you were happy with your steering setup? Or was it just a fluke that it fell apart?

sucks that it was such a menial break you couldnt fix.

how'd the truck work otherwise?

The steering was XXXXin phenomenal until the pin came out. After I unloaded it tonight I scrounged up a snow plow pin and stuffed it back in there, shit's tight.

'Happy' does not begin to describe how my steering worked this weekend. This course was brutal as hell and as much suspension work as I've done, I have no idea what you gotta do to run this course smooth. My first lap was just over 32 minutes...9th place out of 40ish in the class...and the fast guys were running 23-24 minute laps. WTF.

I still passed a bunch of trucks though, and running the tires at 32 psi really helped too. I still have the same 4 tires on it that I started with.

This race was epic. Can't wait til the October one.

Who's coming out for the Oct. 30th race, and hey - anyone want to co-drive? Right seat's open as of now. :D Gonna be very little rock crawling, mostly just fast flat track and a couple little rocky sections.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

my jeep really needs stiffeners and a cage :( or it will head to the land of my green jeep rather quickly. I gotta get my bum in gear about actually doing that stuff...

I got yo back ;)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yeah... we found a broken-off coil from a 1" diameter coil spring made with ~1/8" wire inside the engine  perfectly polished by years of sitting in motor oil. It doesn't seem to match anything that would be in this engine, and was sitting between two lifter bores inside the block. I kept it as a ring.

Obligatory pictures:

ohhhhh yeah:

It's now hanging on the wall in my cube at work.

Oh, and a random pic... now THIS is what I call a rear main seal:

Ken, so is it back together?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mostly.

Heads are back on, valve train back on, valve covers sitting on it to keep junk out.

Still need to remove the busted bolt from the exhaust manifold, re-tap to clean the threads up, reinstall manifolds, reinstall injectors, reinstall turbo, reinstall random tubing and coolant hoses, fill er up with coolant and change the oil.

Awesome! I'd love to come down for the race but there is no way I could swing driving down there two weekends in a row.

That's a hell of a lot closer than it was prior to the weekend. Do you want to plan to come down here again sometime this week?

Definitely. I want to get those ramps done (and preferably painted, going to bring a ton of rustoleum hammered) so we can toss em outside to get them out of your way. Today is shot, too busy at work, any other night works but I'm going to need to head for NH and finish the truck at least one evening so that I have a way to pick the ramps up! :D

And yeah, it is much much closer... the tough part is done. That is, it is done unless I did something wrong in installing the head gaskets, I have never second guessed myself so much over one thing before. The gasket kit I got came with the "old style" head gaskets so I may be doing this job again in a year or two, but at least I'll know exactly what I am doing by then. Looked in the manual again (TM9-2320-209-34-2-1, we started on page 72...) and it seems we did everything right installing the head gasket :yelclap::yelclap:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nice.

Well, after you poked your head in last Thursday, I welded for about 20 mins or a half hour. If I do that much again tonight I expect to be able to finish that one. PS: I'm using your C25 now :wave1:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm so tired.

I'm going to try and get some Cisco reading done during lunch today so when I go home I can start making templates for the blockside motor mounts. I want to get them done before the weekend so I can start bolting the engine/trans together.

I'm gonna be so pumped to see an engine/trans sitting in the thing

Ken, glad to hear nothing was warped. On a cast iron block/head setup I would be amazed if something was. From talking to my uncle and dad (and my own limited experience with overheating badly once), they seem to think it takes quite a bit.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Fuuuuuuuuuck I would love to ride along. I can't take anymore time off work though since I'm going down to Rocktoberfest with Bill.

Awesome! I'd love to come down for the race but there is no way I could swing driving down there two weekends in a row.

Buncha sallies. :conceited

That will indeed be pretty awesome. I can't wait to see my D300 and 231 porking eachother.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have no interest in a doubler right now but I am still tempted to do a D300 flip. I'm interested to see how yours turns out.

And what do you folks think this is worth: http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/1937758428.html Almost just what I want, late model, 2 dr, 5 speed, supposedly no rust/rot... the $3500 asking price is definitely on the high side, and 180k is getting up there in the higher mileage range (largely because I'm not sure how well it was maintained during it's life). Curious what y'all think in terms of making an offer assuming the ad is accurate...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Scott, I'll be posting pictures, have no fear.

That XJ is worth $2k tops. It's got 181k miles...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

x2, 2k tops if the tranny and engine work like they're supposed to, and it's rust free like he claims.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Alright, that's what I was thinking. I was wishing that it was priced at $2500 so $2k would be a reasonable offer. Maybe I will give him a call and see what he says, though I'm sure I won't get anywhere near that price.

Oh well, looks like I might end up living with a 4dr maybe, that one has been up for a while, may accept a lowball offer. Unless the guy with the '95 2dr 5sp gets back to me one of these days...
