Ken, this is the place my uncle said to call:

Hillside Machine in Malden, MA.

He said pressure test it for cracks, put a straightedge on the head to check for any warping, but other than that you'd have to bring it somewhere. He agreed that it should be fine though and to just slap on a gasket.

Diesel heads are big money he said I guess. Expect to spend a few hundred just to check for warping/pressure testing etc. Can't just bring it anywhere.

Hmmm.

Well, I guess I'll put a straightedge on it and check for warping... really not familiar with the tolerances involved though. Am I OK within a few hundredths thousandths or what?

From reading up, I get to readjust the valve rockers / lifters and stuff after I put the new gasket in, and may need to buy a special tool to get at some of the head bolts.

if I didn't have to get a new trans thrown into the XJ I'd show up and help out with stuff or something

I've decided that I am going to throw the trans from the 95 drivetrain into the 96 XJ, the trans from the 99 that I bought in January is going in the MJ with a manumatic control on it.

So yeah... projects for this week:
* tonight - hopefully get the 96's tranny swapped. We'll see how that goes :roflmao: I'll be using the "pull drivetrain" method because there is no way I am wrestling with an AW4 over my head in the dark in a parking lot.
* tomorrow - skip car show, weld up 96's floor some more.
* friday - probably more welding, if not, I'll fix something or other on the massivemobile or MJ.
* saturday - say xxxx it and drive the massivemobile to lobster's on 5 cylinders without a jeep in the back, use my mirrors and roof to clear some class 6 roads for Colin's CTD.

They disable my gate keypad access and put a dinky ass little red padlock on the door as well as mine... if I really wanted to I could get in since I know a friend's gate code and own some bolt cutters, but the site manager is a nice guy and has cut me a break in the past so I don't really want to get on his bad side.

All I gotta do is call up tomorrow and pay, guess I'll do the welding tonight and the tranny tomorrow.

Finally fawking done with work :doh: Another 12 hour day (I feel like an ass for complaining since other folks do long days much more frequently than I do ). I think I might go to work late tomorrow, though I know that I most likely won't since I already have a list of shit to get done

Exhausted, but time to head out and drill the bumper tie-in bracket holes. Hopefully this goes relatively quick. I wouldn't mind going to trivia at the bar and getting cheap pizza and/or fries and a couple beers later. At least once the bumper brackets are drilled/bolted I will be ready to head to lobsters this wkend (other than fire extinguiser and first aid kit which I will get on Friday or sat on my drive up there.

and Ken, you showing up w/o a jeep works great... ya know, incase mine explodes and can't make it back :eyes: though I'm not sure you want to be towing w/ your 5 cyl engine the way it is.

12 hour day? psssssh! lol

Although I will say, I'm taking a training class this week, and the past couple days have been 8-4. And those 8 hours feel like FOREVER. My 18 hour shifts out in the field feel like shorter days, since I'm on my feet, working, and shit is a lot more interesting than sitting in the same place and staring at a computer screen all day
