THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I probably could do that but if I am going to rip the whole top of the engine off to get at it, and spend nearly 300 dollars for the gaskets, I am not going to cut corners.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, I read an article a while ago about some guys who did a 24 hours of lemons build and milled the top of the heads since they were anything but perfect (they got a free/used engine to build off of). In the article the said that in an ideal world you would find somewhere with a machine that can do the entire head in one pass so that it's definitely all flat/level. In their build they had to do it in multiple passes since they didn't have the equipment to do it in one pass... which from the sounds of it worked fine in the end... but again, not ideal since there could be slight imperfections in height, etc between each pass.

Now I'm not sure what places would be able to do a head that large in one pass :laugh3: Maybe contact a trucking service/repair shop or something where they may be used to dealing with large engines?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yes, I saw that - the ghettocharged miata article.

I am NOT going to get this thing done ghetto. Not happening. I want the damn thing to be working and driving like it has been, not yet another project. So far (and hell even right now with 1 cylinder venting out the back of the engine) it has always been driveable through all the repairs and upgrades I've done, and I want to keep it that way as much as possible. If that means paying to have someone mill the head right, and even rebuild it, so be it.

Tonight I'm going to replace more rivets on the steering bracket with bolts, and loctite the crap out of them. Not a fan of death wobble in a 20 thousand pound truck.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

All that you need to do all that in one pass is a bridgeport and a fly cutter and autofeed. I've seen it done and know how to set it up, but have never done it myself. It's really quite simple. Doing multiple passes at the same cut depth is super risky, they are probably pretty decent machinists if they were able to pull that off without any ill effects.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I guess I'll go into work now. With any luck i'll get suspended and get to do stuff today!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That could have been ugly... This isn't your current girlfriend, is it? Forgive me for asking and feel free to not respond - I don't know all the details...

Yes wouldve been current one but broke up about 2 months ago, sick of the bullshit, so its just me and my daughter now. Moving her to the house in Middleboro for Sept.1 so she can start school and Im going to go back and forth so that I can be in for Oct. Its going to take awhile to move all my tools & parts.

Yeah Brockton sucks. I won't be around today, but I can list off some stuff you can take if you feel like swinging by. I haven't pulled the oil pan off that engine yet as I want it for the 4.0 going in my MJ (it has a dumb rubber plug).

If you want to pick up the 44 housing (junk), and the knuckles/ball joints (good) feel free.

The steering I still might try to pawn off on someone (all TREs are good) and I still need to get the oil pan off the 4.0 for the 4.0 going in my MJ (has a dumb rubber plug).

You know you wrote the drain plug twice. I can wait until Thurs or Fri if you want. That way you dont have it hanging around, I also forgot your parts.

Ken I realized yesterday that you forgot the grill and the steering wheel buttons, among other stuff.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haha figures.

Yeah I can pull the pan Friday night if you want to take it then as well as the housing.

If no one bites on the HP44 gears I have on NEOW, you can take them as well as the knuckles to Bob.

Anthony, you interested in buying my old steering for the spare TREs? I'm sure with some heat they'll come out...:D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, you worried about welds on recovery points? i dont even care when i weld, even if its steering and trackbars not on my jeep :D

Haha, thanks for the offer... I don't think I'm going to take you up on it though. I need to build it first, then I'll worry about spares.

 I mean I'll be in the Honcho when he's getting pulled out, so I won't be the one hit by this projectile.

I ask because Panos is a NAXJA legend, and 5gs has a lot of food. Maybe we should ask panos to sponsor????

SHUTUP. Panos or I'm not longer your friend.

Haha, thanks for the offer... I don't think I'm going to take you up on it though. I need to build it first, then I'll worry about spares.

:D I haven't had any bites on any of my stuff so we'll see what happens.
