Meh, I don't care. XXXX Em.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah, I took the bike to home depot down in Taunton for the hardware and then went to meet my friends at the bar for trivia, had a couple beers, and came home... now I am def not getting any more work done. But the big thing is that I got the stud out of my steering box... that was the part that was worrying me and it's done, the rest shouldn't take long at all.

some 3/16 or 1/4 plate and some Gr 8 nuts. its wicked easy to make, and make PERFECT. i tossed one together in 3.6784928 seconds for Melissa's jeep
Sweet, got the hardware and I have 1/4 and 3/16 plate sitting in the garage right now (I put the 3/16 aside since I will probably use that). I was just worried something like a nut that size would offer too much slop since the bolt isn't a PERFECT fit. The stock bracket fits the bolt snug, the nut does not. I did pick up some 3/8 flat washers as well since those are a pretty snug fit around the bolt. Worst comes to worst I will weld a washer on the end of the nut to pick up some of the movement.

I am now making my own spacer either way since I just have to have the rig road/trail worthy by Friday night. Ideally by tomorrow night so I can drive to work on Friday and get a test drive in, maybe even head straight to Western MA from work.

Tomorrow. I'm tired and grumpy now. It's mainly because all the bolts lined up before I painted it and then my Dad decided to weld some extra supports on without telling me and I think it may have tweaked it just enough that 5 out of 19 bolts will not line up at all.

I'm hoping I didn't tweak my rear bumper at all when I welded on the brackets for unibody tie ins. I was thinking about that earlier. I will find out tomorrow

edit: for those up between now and 1 AM, http://www.woot.com/ Not a bad deal for backup power for a cell if you go camping or whatever. I just got one.

Holy crap am I beat. I got home at 11:30 after getting to Canobie Lake Park today with my daughter at noon. I finally convinced her to leave at 9:30. I cant believe she lasted that long. Shes only 5 and normally takes a nap during the day and is in bed by 9. In fact I wouldnt carry her at all today just to tire her out, but I'm the only one who seemed beat by the end of the day. The sunny warm weather early in the day did however provide some enjoyable sites.

i have had that problem. now i just bolt the brackets on the jeep and weld the bumpers together while they are installed. im wondering if ill ever be able to get it back on if i need to take it off now....

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Everything I touched today broke. I can't bolt my flexplate to my torque converter without a dumb plate I forgot to put between the engine and tranny. I'm about to ratchet strap the transmission to an office chair to allow me to slide it back enough to get the plate in. My tranny weighs less than colin so I'm hoping it'll be fine. I don't know how else to do it while alone and without a tranny jack.

You were about 20 minutes away from my place.

I can't believe this thread reached 3260 pages. I can only imagine how stupid outsiders must think we all are when they view this thread, or the disdain they may hold for tying up their space.
Ehhhh. If they don't like it they can click the back button. I do find it amusing how this thread pollutes the search results for everything though.

I call this the inverse midas touch, everything I touch turns to shit.

Kinda ghetto but I guess it'll work.

hahahahaha terrible.

I broke an office chair in college... weld screwed up the metal around it, it had a stress riser in the weld which took two years to fatigue/grow out enough to break the stand off the chair. So we attached a stand for my thousand watt floodlight to it and wheeled it around the apartment.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

On a whim, I just checked Heleta's site for hole saws. Holy Crap. I'll get 2 just in case. Max rpm for steel is only 65 rpm and the new drill press only goes down to 250... I should rig up a VARIAC

I <3 transmissions and tcases.
I've got a 30 amp monster variac sitting around somewhere (think I know where it is!) you can borrow, but I'll need it back at some undetermined point in time when I decide to actually build the kilowatt-class HF amplifier I bought it for.

I just found out why one of my knuckles was itching... noticed a small black spot and ended up digging out a weld berry  I haven't welded since Monday night and it took me till now to even notice.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, that would be neat. Do you think it would work for what I want it to do? It would give me more control than what you suggested yesterday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm fairly certain it would. It certainly is rated to handle that drill press, and they are fairly easy to pick up at flea markets. I seem to recall paying under a hundred bucks for mine, they cost a couple bills new.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmm... Maybe I'll just try going really slow with the hole saw first...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I tried that, when you have em going too fast they make an ungodly racket, chip teeth, and tend to jam at random, even if you use a very slow feed rate.

I'll bring the variac on down next time I'm in the area (I'll probably be down there Friday) so we can rig it up and give it a try.

Yeah, I won't be here then though... Maybe we could do that when we do your ramps.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

What else should I get?

1x 5" hole saw
1x 1.75" hole saw
2x med grit scotch brite pads
10x 4.5" cutting wheels
5x 4.5" grinding wheels

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

More cutting wheels, and some twisted wire wheels. Their prices are somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of Home Depot's price for twisted wire wheels.

EDIT: forgot you weren't gonna be there, oops... yeah I'll throw it on the list of stuff to bring whenever we work on those ramps.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I've already got a huge stash of cutting wheels and grinding discs and I have one twisted wire wheel. I don't really even need the ones I'm buying. I'm getting a few just to try them out. I'm sure they'll be better than the HF ones I've been using lately. I'll order more when I need them... (I have flap discs too....)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

2 1-3/4" Bi-Metal Hole Saw For all Metals (HSS-M42) $4.74 $9.48
5 3M Scuff & Clean Pad 6" x 9" Maroon-Medium (Scour Pad) $1.34 $6.70
50 Abrasive Metal Cutting Wheel 4.5" x .045" x 7/8" $0.59 $29.50
10 Abrasive Metal Grinding Wheel 4.5" x 1/4" x 7/8" $1.16 $11.60
1 All Purpose Double Palm Gloves Large (Durable Cowhide) $2.29 $2.29

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I have been trying to decide between the $0.59 cutting wheels and the $0.66 offset ones. I don't think it should be a big deal either way but I have always been using the offset ones :dunno:
