Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Which pinch seams, the ones along the bottom insides of the frame rails on the front end? I would cut them out if I could weld the cut edges to the inside of the stiffeners, but since that's not possible I would not cut them out.

Oh, and I can bend 1/8" with a pair of pliers or vice grips, so :spin1:

The grille on the M54 is made out of 1/8" and 3/16" stock. I think the hood is 12 gauge, maybe 14, it weighs a lot.

Get off the interwebz and make two peices of metal one!

Already did that this past weekend if you hadn't seen my thread.

What did you get done? :)

I don't think I'm going to cut them. Probably stop just shy of them. Not sure yet.

I LOVE this idea. My plan is to build two ramps so I can just drive the XJ into the back of it. The best part is that some previous owner welded some brackets onto the bed that look like I could bolt a smallish winch to them (or just a crossbar and a comealong) so I don't even have that much work left to finish it.
How high is the bed on that thing? I was curious how you were planning on getting an Audi in there like (IIRC) you originally mentioned doing. Seems to me like you would need some long ramps for something with a poor approach angle like that..

We gave up on that idea, I simply learned to drive stick instead.

Small vehicles can go to hell... :D

The top of the bed sides are about even with my face, so figure the bed is about 5 feet in the air. I'm thinking 10 foot ramps should work fine, that should give a ~30 degree slope. Probably will make 12 or 14 foot ramps though, since metal stock is generally sold by 3/6/12 foot increments (iirc) and the bed is 14 feet long.

pretty awesome, huh?

a few quick questions: does yours have power steering, cold start, or heat?

Power steering - yes. Even so my arms are sore as hell from driving that thing for 500+ miles. I can steer it one handed but prefer not to.

Cold start - yup! It's got an intake heater and the PO said it started in a single crank even when it was 15 degrees out last winter. He seemed like a pretty stand-up guy and everything else he said has been true so I believe it.

Heat - uhhhh nope. Gonna have to fix that. It also has no roof atm (just needs a canvas top) so driving in the pouring rain, well, SUCKED. I had to have the wipers on full while using my hand to wipe the inside of the windshield and my glasses were a lost cause.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

awesome. sounds like a really good buy. what i'm reading is that they go for double what you paid.

you should do something like this:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anthony - considered it, decided against. It is not getting bobbed. The MJ *almost* fits in the back with the tailgate up, the XJ should fit just fine. I like that and hope to keep it that way. I do dig those tires though. Soon as I get the steering tightened up a bit more (still has a bit of play in it, and I want to get the rest of the rivets handled properly) I might see where I can pick a set up and how bad they will set me back. They might even make 1st gear useful and would definitely improve cruising speed.

Not having any silly sheetmetal is great... I was standing on the fender while working on the belts. I'm fairly certain I jumped on it while pissed off, actually.

Anthony - wish I had the space for those. Also, if you break, you're welcome to borrow it to get your junk back home anytime...

Mark - found what? :spin1:
