Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i'm going to have to make a JY trip tomorrow to pick up some spares, particularly axle shafts. i still am on a 260x joint from my spare driver side shaft, so that thing will be a twig on the trails. anyone know how the stock at everetts is this weekend?

Everetts has 2 '96- XJ's, both with ABS. I started pulling the shafts from one of them yesterday but then it got close to closing time and looked like it was about to rain and didn't want to walk to the lot to grab the hi-lift. aka I got lazy :laugh3:

And they moved everything around. XJs are now more straight out back. Just walk down the first major walkway and keep an eye out for WJ/ZJs XJs are behind them. Let me know if you are heading there and I might stop by as well to pull a set of spare shafts since I didn't get any yesterday, plus I could grab an electric fan maybe

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So question for y'all.. I just went to home depot and they didn't carry 1/4" for unibody tie-ins. Would 3/16"x2" be good [enough] for the unibody tie ins or should I shop around and wait for the 1/4" like I wanted? I don't want to skimp out so I figure I will call lowes to see what they have but it couldn't hurt to ask y'all anyway.

I did pick up 4 feet of 3/16"x2" for my nut strips along with all the 1/2" hardware I should need... I know 3/16" is super overkill for a nut strip but I figured that I would use that for the unibody tie-ins if it was sufficient for that and it wasn't too much more pricey IIRC :dunno:

Edit: if 3/16" isn't good enough for the tie-ins themselves I think I am going to return that for some 1/8" for the nut strips. The more I think about it 3/16" nutstrips would be pointless and it would just be harder to work with in general. :gee:

Edit2: And I found this over on cherokeeforum.. Is the one nut on the outside of the framerail necessary or not? I know the JCR nutstrips don't have that 5th nut (maybe the 5th nut is for the tank skid only?). I will probably make an attempt at putting a 5th nut there but if I fail horribly at bending the steel to get it out of the framerail is that going to cause major problems down the line

I'm at the alpine slides at attitash... Jeans, steel toes, and biking jacket ftw. I haven't lost any skin yet and I've been hauling ass.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There is NO ONE here. I haven't waited in line yet. And the lift attendant just went "you didn't hear this from me, but" and told us how to make the sleds move at least twice as fast.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That was a successful day at the JY. Pulled 2 sets of axleshafts in just over an hour, probably could have done it faster but god I love hi-lift jacks even more now. FWIW Everetts charges $35 per shaft w/ hub, I know I saw the "how much?" question asked before.

It was especially sweet cause the guy gave me the taurus 3-wire electric fan for free

Now I just gotta motivate myself and get the few extra parts to do my dual electric fan swap, though I have the feeling the hardest part of that is going to be upgrading all the power/ground wires since I am def upgrading those before running dual electrics (esp since there will also be hellas/KCs sooner than later and I have a 118A alt)

Magic Hat 'Wacko' words of wisdom: "Mud season is pleasin' for a reason"

Edit: I just found a real nice house. It's at the VERY top of my price range but it's real nice and the seller is putting in a new septic before closing so that's one thing I wouldn't have to worry about. I gotta call about that one tomorrow. Less property than I wanted but still, almost a 1/4 acre. Anyone want to rent a room in Taunton?

scott, i already put the driver side shaft in when i got back to boston, figured why not i was already filthy. you were giving me shit on how i got the "good" driver side hub, but one of the studs is XXXXed up so i only could get 4 lug nuts on. good enough for government work!

That sucks, if we knew that ahead of time I would have swapped out one of my drivers side shafts for yours since I have no immediate need for them.

Though good enough for gov't work does hold true; I ran with 3 lugs for a short while when I first got my XJ since half the lugs stripped or were bad in some other way the first time I took them off. :wow: I also gave my buddy a bunch of lugs when I retired the rig so I only had 3 on most of the wheels when I took it out of storage. I'm pretty sure I gave it to Bob at baystate with only 3 lugs on most of the tires and he added one to each of them for me

Oh and earlier while making mac and cheese I opened a magic hat and the cap said "make love not processed food" the mac and cheese was delicious
