THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

YAY! Another full day at work and then the rest of my night working on Mel's Jeep. I want her Jeep done by Sunday. Ross, imma need yo help. I'll call you when I get out of work.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm an angry kid, what can I say?

But seriously, I'm not sure, I seem to remember something, but I don't know.

Maybe it was that guy trying to butt-weld D30 knuckles onto the HPD44?

TJ Rubi front 44s are pretty pointless though.
Good lord, butt-welded knuckles, I'd take an infraction for calling someone out on that with pride.

The only infraction I've gotten so far was for being a jackass to veedubshafer... I deserved it, been being "nice" since then.

Ken, NACFest is next weekend, I know I'm not going to be wheeling next weekend. Use those tow hook brackets for NACFest, I'll bring the hooks up after this weekend if you want.
Hmmmmm. That would be really awesome :yelclap: either that or I can meet you somewhere for em, no need for you to drive all the way out here. So (I'm not really fully awake yet) the plan is, I borrow the brackets off Scott (or buy em?) and the hooks off you, then the brackets and hooks go back to you?

good to know, only issue is finding a copper punch in keene, i coulnt even find a brass one to do the rear main, had to improvise on that

cool i may try that also i just hope i still got the cheapo lug nuts some where
If you don't need a very big diameter one, home depot stocks 3/16" brass rod, I use it for all sorts of small punch jobs, just keep a few lengths in the junk bin in case I need em. If you need larger diameter, maybe steel pipe with a brass union/joiner screwed onto the end and ground to the proper shape?

Ya, my first infraction was over 4 years after I joined the forum. I then proceeded to rack up 3 in less than 5 months.

I am one year clean though.

Yep, that would be the idea. I'll get the hooks this weekend from home, then bring them to Boston, and we can work something out from there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken, let me know when you head down to Everetts tomorrow if you are still planning on going.

I will be going to the Freetown JY and Everetts on Sat (weather permitting, since I want a headliner and carpet so I would prefer to go when there was less rain ). I can probably meet you at everetts depending on when you are there. I gotta hit up the freetown JY with the raised vehicles first since they close at 2 and everetts closes at 4 or 4:30. Hopefully I won't be at either place anywhere near closing time since I hope to be leaving my house around 10AM, but who knows what will end up happening.

If you want I can probably meet you between the cape and Boston when you are heading back on (I assume) Sunday.

Where on the cape are you? If you are planning on heading down to the cape today I could possibly take a ride and meet ya somewhere tonight so I can give Ken both the brackets and hooks tomorrow. idk when you plan on heading to the cape but figure it's worth asking

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Mark - awesome, thanks a ton.

Scott - my plan is to hit Sam's early (8am), look for a matching nose for the 98 and a bunch of other stuff, then hit Crown and buy some stuff I need for the 98, then Everett's and get whatever I missed at Sam's, then maybe Freetown as well, not sure on the order for the last two. I have a whole bunch of stuff I'm looking for including some that requires dropping the gas tank, so Freetown may be best for that.

I'm really hoping that between those 3 yards I can find a bright red 97+ with an intact nose, or at least portions of one.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

One of my CTDs fan blades decided to leave its place this morning and take a bite out of my radiator.

New radiator, fan, hoses, and possibly fan clutch on the way and getting installed between tonight/tomorrow.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yikes. That thing is such a money pit, you should sell it to me and DD the XJ.

Alright, I will try and head out to Freetown by 10AM and call/text you or something to let you know what they have for XJs. I know that would probably be quite a hike for you so I will take a walk around the yard to see what I can find before you spend the time driving down. I don't trust the guys in the office to know what they have in the yard otherwise I would just call and ask if they have any XJs. Last time I called they told me they got a couple new ones in but they hadn't so I was pretty pissed at that one.

No problem dude.

Did you ever get that green headerpanel from Bump?

I'm in Barnstable, but I probably won't get down there until late tonight, since I have to drive to RI first to pick up the 241. I also will be taking 93 to 95 to 495, so I won't be on rte 3 at all.
I also don't know when I'll be heading back Sunday, I tend to leave really late Sunday nights.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It's about a two hour drive. I'll be in the area for Everett's and Crown anyways - thus my plan for hitting them as well.

Oh yeah, and I gotta meet Bump at some point and get some switches from him  he keeps finding pieces of my jeep :roflmao:

EDIT - Mark, nope not yet. I'm really really hoping to go straight for a factory-painted red nose. I like to avoid aftermarket paint, whether applied by me or not, whenever possible, as it just isn't as good.

I hasn't given me TOO many problems yet. Just the ABS and now this. I've already put 20k miles on it since I've owned it. I know I'm hard on it (500+ miles a week with usually 200 more on top of that towing a 5k lb manlift for work) and I know the first owner was hard on it since it had a 5th wheel or gooseneck setup out back.

I'm just glad it's not a 53 block...could've meant the casting for the motor mount broke.

495 isn't far from me. From the sounds of it the hooks are on the cape but if you have them on you I could always meet you somewhere off 495.

Gotcha, In that case I guess it's worthwhile. I wonder if the MJ at the freetown place has sold yet... It's been there in the lot every time I went down to pull parts but the kid at the desk said that it was already spoken for every time (I'm pretty sure he was going to buy it).. If it's still there I am going to talk to the owner or something and try to buy it even if the kid still says that he is getting it. It looked pretty clean. I was ready to walk in and buy it on my credit card the first time I saw it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Inspect it more carefully than "looks good on the outside." At least you'll know what you are getting yourself into. Myself I'm a fan of cheap some-assembly-required / craigslist basket case vehicles.

Either way I'm definitely buying a full set of the tow hooks and stuff myself, but at least this way I won't have to worry as much about them not getting to me in time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It looked good on the outside and on the inside. That good enough? :roflmao:

It was only $1000 so it's not like I would have spent a fortune on it. I happened to run into a guy who was pulling parts of an XJ in the yard who apparently knew the PO and said it's not worth the $$ cause it was beat on. Sounded like the PO just drove it hard since the body was straight; not like it was tossed around on a trail too much at all... anyway, that's all well and good since my plan would be to swap an OBDI (or II) engine into it before I started DDing it so the drivetrain could be hanging out for all I cared.

Based on my 2 minute inspection I gave it before the kid came out of the office and said "that's sold, don't bother looking" it was more or less rust free (floors were not rotted at all, bed was clean, etc) and the interior was in great shape. No clue how well it ran but as I said, that didn't really matter, if it didn't run it would have just been a bargaining point to knock off a couple hundred.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ross, is there a build for those axles on that "immortal" JK?

front is a prorock 44 setup from mopar with JK brackets with dodge power wagon inner c's added on. the rear is a stock power wagon axle. Mopar and Axletech Motorsports teamed up to make the portal boxes. thats about the most thats known right now.

time for some cool e-fans!!!

You could stop by!

nope, he'll be closer to me.

plus, he could drop off a 242 to me......

:D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh BTW...there's a plymouth trailduster build in the latest four wheeler magazine...

Rolling on 39x14.50 Maddogs and 4" of lift...

I'm infinitely jealous.
