THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Okay.

Although convient, having an extra doesnt make alot of sense to me. I never let me bottle go all the way dead. Once im around a 200 PSI i start planning on getting it refilled. I always run outta wire, but never gas.
Convenience is the big thing. I like to run my to just about what you 100-150 like you. The biggest issue I run into is when its Friday and I have 500psi left; do I risk it or suck it up and lose what's left? That has happened twice now. :(

It's not like gas goes bad. So I can't see why I wouldn't want a spare around other than the additional one time cost.

i think i have around 50-60 lbs thru mine.

Bill, how many you up to? :D
A lot. I'm probably 3 times that or so? Thankfully I buy my wire in bulk. I had about 20lbs through it before I even started welding anything on my XJ.

I finally got tired of paying ripoff prices for 2lb spools
I have never purchased a 2lb spool for that reason and the fact I'd kill it to fast. Only 10/11lbs for me.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Is it just me or does that "simple swap kit" seem a bit high priced for what it is?
I appreciate it, but I'm good for now. My budget is tapped and I really don't have all that much more welding left. I'll probably finish the tank I'm on and get another before I'm done but that should be it. It is really a "that would be nice to have" type deal.
spring perches $32 wich is reasonable
ubolts $50 for 4 reasonable
u bolt plate $40 kinda reasonable
shock mounts- $16 pair reasonable
total $138 so i guess its reasonable but not a stellar deal

also socket set looks awsome i just gotta see if i can swing the cash now

Yeah. I don't weld THAT much, so I think I should be OK on my 20cf tank. I think I will keep my eye on CL though and hope someone sells a 40 or 80cf to pay their rent however, since it does seem like a waste to send a partially filled tank back. I used a couple 2lb rolls before I got tired of swapping them out, back when I figured I wouldn't ever be welding stuff on my jeep, just building stuff for fun.

X2, though u bolt plates for 40 isn't really kinda reasonable, I ended up paying 30 or so after selling off the extra stock I bought, and got 1/2" thick plates that should be bomb proof as far as I'm concerned and will double as bumpstop extensions.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Get the best auto darkening mask you can afford. Also, woooo welding!

I have probably put about 6-8lbs of wire through my Lincoln Handy MIG at this point, it isn't the best and it's really a pretty wimpy welder but it does great for 1/8", 3/16" sometimes, and exhaust/bodywork. Also welds poop pipe quite nicely.

How does that welder work out for the floors? I've been looking at picking something up on the cheapish side to have at home to do my floors. That seems to be right about in my price range at this point.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Haven't done my floors yet, will be soon probably since I bought a set of fronts off Dylan on my last trip down. It does great on exhaust tubing (done 3 exhausts now, plus patches on my brother's honda, damn I hate working under small cars) and quite nicely on 16ga though.

Don't spend 300 on a new handy mig. Spend 300 on a used Miller or something off CL. More bang for your buck and it'll be good for other stuff in the future.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yea I've got the floor pans i wanna put in too. Looks like the handy mig is about 320 shipped from sears... hmmm

Eh, I guess I didn't realise that some of those prices were that high. Seems like a lot for a simple piece of steel with four holes in it.

It is a nice set. If you wait it goes on sale all the time for $399. Expensive, but if you add up piecing it together with 10 and 12 piece sets it is well worth the big one time jump.

Haha, I don't think there has been a day in awhile where I haven't turned my welder on. Did you read what I wrote before? Here it is again just in case:
Be careful buying someone else's tank. Make sure it isn't a leased tank. Also make sure that the certs are good and it doesn't need re-certification. Honestly, for the couple of bucks difference you probably end up saving I'd save the hassle and get the setup at a local welding shop.

A small welder like that will be fine for sheetmetal. I'd prefer a Miller over Lincoln, but that is just opinion.

Yep, I read it - I read up on this a while ago right after seeing how gas cylinders were made on How It's Made. I'll definitely make sure I'm not getting burned, thanks for the heads up though.

I got a miller 130 (or something around there). Worked great for the floors and as Ken said it does well for exhaust and anything smaller than 3/16" for the most part (could push it and do 3/16 but it would be slow). I picked it up lightly used for $500, that $500 got me the welder, a CO2 tank, some wire, hammer, cart, random assorted tips and such, plus a set of oxy/acet tanks w/ cart. I probably have 20-25lbs through mine by now, mostly flux core.

Part of me wishes I got a 220V since I now realize I could have used the generator for 220V power (we don't have 220 to the garage/outside) but this welder is nice for the smaller stuff that I am doing for now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

just got back from airgas, the guy at the desk there was cool. picked up some gloves, some more safety glasses and this helmet http://www.airgas.com/browse/productDetail.aspx?Category=422&product=RAD64005101 . it was the only sub-$200 helmet they had, and he knocked my price down from the "$175" to the $125 it was on sale last month, after seeing my jeep out front.

rad.

time to scrounge up some scrap and booger away!

it will be nice to just toss the shit on the axle and not have to worry about fabbing it all up, and ill keep a eye out on that socket set bein on sale

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it is slowly dawning on me just how sore I am from "brake dancing" most of the day yesterday.

(brake dancing = you have to see me work on brake lines and replace a gas tank before you'll really understand why this is a terrible pun)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Raynam is super close to me if you want me to go look at it. I know the trouble spots on them, almost bought one myself.

Thats funny I was in Raynham today and saw 2. 1 was a mess and being loaded on a flatbed, not the one in the pics. I work in Raynham/Taunton daily for now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I want to be working on my jeeps not sitting in this cursed cube.
