Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

whooo! got my new welder today, graduation gift from my dad and stepmom. they got me a lincoln 140C, and some extra wire and shit. i'm excited to start boogering things together. my dad works at lowes right now so he gets a discount on their stuff, thankfully saving them some cash since its pretty tight.

gonna go pick up a mask tomorrow / tuesday, what do you guys recommend? ideally it'll be less than like $120 or so, but i do want to keep my eyes. my plan is to set it up for flux core and run through the 4 lbs or so of that wire while i poke around CL and whatnot for an argon / co2 tank and get that filled.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

last night i rode to tiverton from amherst. it was 41* but the "real feel" was 31* for most of the ride. i think i was somewhat hypothermic when i got home.

Get the best helmet you can afford. I like my Miller but there are plenty of other good helmets. Look back a few pages when Mark asked these same questions.

Be careful buying someone else's tank. Make sure it isn't a leased tank. Also make sure that the certs are good and it doesn't need re-certification. Honestly, for the couple of bucks difference you probably end up saving I'd save the hassle and get the setup at a local welding shop.
Also, don't do something dumb and get a 20cu ft. I've got an 80cu ft and I'm looking at picking up another as a spare.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone around the Raynham Ma area?
There is a sweet grand wagoneer for sale cheap.
If someone would take a look at it, I may be inclined to buy it.
If not, I might take a ride down wednesday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

raynham is about 30-35 minutes away from my house...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I drive by and/or through Raynham daily on the way to/from work. Not sure what my schedule is looking like this week but I may be able to stop by.

get either a nice Miller or Randor (airgas' version) the Randor like mine is somewhere around your budget limit but well worth it.

For tanks, if both you guys are interested in bottles, ill talk to my guy. he'll sell me some bottles filled for an awesome price!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Is it just me or does that "simple swap kit" seem a bit high priced for what it is?

I appreciate it, but I'm good for now. My budget is tapped and I really don't have all that much more welding left. I'll probably finish the tank I'm on and get another before I'm done but that should be it. It is really a "that would be nice to have" type deal.

Get the best auto darkening mask you can afford. Also, woooo welding!

I have probably put about 6-8lbs of wire through my Lincoln Handy MIG at this point, it isn't the best and it's really a pretty wimpy welder but it does great for 1/8", 3/16" sometimes, and exhaust/bodywork. Also welds poop pipe quite nicely.

sick man! when you talk to your guy, let me know about a bottle of 75/25. I'm all done with school now so I think i'll head over to airgas and pick up a helmet, try to scrounge up some scrap and start boogering.

If you are talking to the guy I may be interested in a bottle as well, I only have straight CO2 right now so I gotta get an argon tank and I figure it's about time to do that

Okay.

Although convient, having an extra doesnt make alot of sense to me. I never let me bottle go all the way dead. Once im around a 200 PSI i start planning on getting it refilled. I always run outta wire, but never gas.

i think i have around 50-60 lbs thru mine.

Bill, how many you up to? :D

Yeah, I've only been really welding since Christmas or so, and welding at all since last fall :spin1: I finally got tired of paying ripoff prices for 2lb spools and threw a 10lb of .035 in it this time around, so it should be lasting me a while.

Fun. Hopefully I'll be doing the same in a few weeks...

Just got out of the RMV after getting my license renewed, was there for an hour and a half. Some old codger was complaining about life, the universe, and everything the whole time, then when he got called, he had filled out his paperwork wrong and had to go to the back of the line :roflmao: karma ftw.
