THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Carmelo's tank sure is leaking, and my parking lot bares proof. I went outside after you left yesterday to unload parts from my XJ and didn't know where the smell was coming from so I was under the front & back of mine, smelling around, until I noticed the large dark puddle in the spot where you parked.

Didn't even smell like gas, smelled like gasoline that took a bath in gear oil.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Looks like a fuel pump for TBI puts out 15 psi while a MPFI pump puts out 31 psi and according to my FSM the pumps are not interchangeable. Although I know Bosch made all the pumps and they have a bazillion different ones and maybe a different pump would fit?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I am trying to figure that out but I think I might need a PhD to decipher all the different option combinations and alternative part numbers for the MJ fuel tank in the parts catalog.

Looks like there are 4 tanks...
8350 2632 - 16 gallon, LWB, 2.5L EFI, EFI, 4.0L EFI, apparently also a 23.5 gallon tank. 2-3 alternate part numbers listed. I'm confused.
8350 2635 - 16 gallon, LWB, carb, diesel, 2.5L carb, apparently this is also a 23.5 gallon tank. 2-3 alternate part numbers listed. I'm confused and my head hurts.
8350 3398 - 18 gallon, SWB, EFI, year?
8350 5282 - 18 gallon, SWB, carb, year?

You can't interchange the assemblies? As in use my tank and your assembly?

Way ahead of you

<not a picture from a FSM>

From this picture they look identical. I imagine the warning is so idiots arent sending 31 psi to their TBI or vice versa.

carmelo, if that's a page from a FSM you oughta remove it. if it gets reported you'll likely get an infraction

 good boy

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

There's nothing I can do to really test my sending unit is there? I know I can test the resistance to see if there is any but where? A quick look at the FSM I didn't see any testing procedure. Aside from wiggling the wires at the tank it's most likely a bad ground inside the tank on the sender itself right?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah. Could also be the fuel pump assembly ground at the taillight or whatever but I think it shares a ground with the fuel pump, not sure.

My FSM lists 2 tanks. A SWB 18.5 gallon and LWB 23.5 gallon tank.

The sender grounds at the tail light? That would seem silly. Let's put something in the middle of a vehicle and then ground it at the very rear of the vehicle.

You'd be amazed at some of the wiring insanity Adam and I found in your old harness.

Like headlamp delay modules getting the ignition feed from the idiot lights...WTF?

yeah, it's something goofy stupid like that. There is an important ground in the tail light that can stop you from going anywhere and also a ground strap from the bed to the frame or something. My MJ tech knowledge is still pretty sparse, but those are things I've read/heard about. Fortunately haven't been bitten by them yet.

I figure I'll discover what these problems really are when I drop my gas tank and replace it, the sending unit, the remainder of my brake lines, and some other junk back there.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Ken you're right, it grounds out behind the left tail light. It's a ground for the pump and sender it seems though. I would think that would effect both :dunno:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Looks like the connector that goes to the fuel gauge is above the parking brake. I guess I can test those two spots today...

Is that essentially the same ground that is in the rear fender of the XJ behind the spare? The fuel pump relay one?
