Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So at 5:15P yesterday when I was walking out of the labs (going back to my desk to pack my shit and go home) one of the guys who works for my customer stopped me and said that "Chris (my boss) said you might have the new FW release at some point today, did you happen to get that yet?". My response was that the team is out in CA and I am fairly certain that me having it that day meant that I would get it at 7PM while out at the bar drinking a beer and eating a pizza, he got a good laugh out of that assumption...

...I got the latest FW at 8:30PM while at the bar drinking a beer and eating wings. Damn, so close.

And I think I am leaving work early today. Worked till 8A-9:30P on Monday, close to 8A-6P hte rest of the week, and got back from the bar at 10 last night and proceeded to start shooting out emails until 11:30... I have no motivation to do anymore work this week. Last night my buddy said that his parents were leaving at 4AM today to go to VT for the wkend (they hadn't left by 7:30 when I drove past his house). We then decided that we hadn't played beirut in far too long and that is the plan for the night... I told him I was leaving work at noon. He didn't argue.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i certainly hope someone got that on video!
No video... not this time anyways. Up to anything tonight? Pretty sure we'll be working on it again, or can at least fire it up.

EDIT: holy crap, completely forgot it was Colin's birthday. Maybe we can show up with it in the back of the MJ and fire it up in the parking lot of whatever place you guys end up at...

a friend of mine has something very similar in his garage...
Yeah, we open the garage door and fire it down the driveway, it's a good thing his next door neighbors already moved out because that thing is LOUD. Right now we're pretty sure the combustion chamber needs some redesign (it's a ghetto hack to test if the idea works at all right now) because the flames make it into the turbo and you can hear a kind of crunching/popping noise as bits of flame go through, when the flames aren't coming out the exhaust it sounds great and runs smooth. Due to the flames coming out the exhaust, when it starts up, the turbine blades glow cherry red and slowly cool down once most of the flames retreat back into the combustion chamber. I want to get an O2 sensor bung and the flange that bolts onto the exhaust port on it and build a closed loop control system for it so we can get optimum mixture and stop burning the hell out of the turbo but the other guys are of the FIRI mindset right now, till they get the combustion chamber and ignition setup working right. It's actually working well enough now (on the first revision no less) that it's self sustaining after about 20 seconds and doesn't require the leaf blower or ignition circuit past that point.

I wish I was leaving work right now.

Should have taken the morning off.
100000% agreed.

If you haven't heard of it yet, check out www.used-tools.com - the rest of the jet engine/hovercraft team spent half of yesterday there (it's in Worcester) buying tools. Apparently they have a massive assortment of random reamers, mills, etc etc etc and if anything lasts more than a week they put it on a huge table in the middle where everything is $3. I need to go there ASAP, only heard about it last night.

You actually call it beirut? Not many people around here do. Usually just call it beer pong.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

2- rear main seals
2-oilpan gaskets
2- valve cover gasket

The dewalt AC unit is pretty nice and can mount hte blade horizontally which is kinda snazzy. Maybe I am just saying that because I am used to battery op ones that run out of juice in no time at all.. but the dewalt is pretty nice. For like $80 I'm not complaining.

If you ever need one for a short while feel free to give me a call; you can borrow mine and see if you think it is worth your $$ to buy one (in short, the answer will be yes. But I told myself that I didn't need one for about 3 years before I realized I was doing everything the hard way :laugh3:)

Yes, I do. The bar near me has a beirut night on monday nights. I haven't been yet. I think I need to practice this wkend and hit up the bar next monday.

And I have to check out that used tools place. I just wish it was closer. Once the Jeep is back on the road and I can fit more/bigger stuff I will have to drive out.

I just have regular acorn style lugnuts. No cap/coating or anything.

WAY better. I don't have to give a **** at all.

hmm, not a bad idea. they are just for wheelin anyways. maybe i'll grab a set of those. where would i get em? dealer?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I think you can pick them up at any parts store. I think autozone has them. I remember I had to buy a handful a while back and IIRC that's where I went. They came out and said "we have these fancy ones (with cap) or these other ones".

i'm sure junkyards have lugnuts kicking around, might have to ask though. don't bother with autozone/advance, it's like $3 for each lug nut there, which is WAY too much if you're buying a lot

I don't think his lugs will work for you... you don't have 9/16" studs do you?

I got mine at the local parts store, had to order them, but I saved a few bucks over SummitRacing.

Personally few the few bucks I wouldn't risk junkyard lugnuts.

Incorrect information. Mine came from Advance, ordering 34 of them (2 spares) was way cheaper.
Yup, super bling! Mine look like these:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

go post all this crap in the tech thread...
I refuse. :moon:
I'm not reading both of them, heck I hardly read this one!
They're friggin lugnuts.

Get the cheapest you can find.

Don't need no fancy crap on 'em.
Which is why I've got open ones. I would like Rob's nuts (hehehe) though, his will keep the stud threads clean.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

now time to order driveplate bolts for both jeeps, and after will be radiators
