that's probably the most red neck idea i've ever had that might actually work (granted, others have done it before i thought of it...) a lot of redneck ideas are just plain stupid. but this one has worked before.

I sacrificed the back end of my 13mm 12pt socket to the jeep gods last time I swapped a frozen-in unit bearing... it met the face of my hand sledge repeatedly. Socket still works, it's just a little lumpy

Years ago I found one of those gator grip sockets for like $5 at some car show discount table. The thing was a piece of sh*t and quickly became my honorary U-joint removal tool.

Actually I cant remember if it was too big for u-joints... might have just become my sacrificial socket for whenever I need to hammer something. I think I still got it kicking around somewhere in one of the toolboxes.. That one doesn't work anymore :gee:

Ten bucks for each set (I have metric + SAE) so I figured I couldn't really lose. Already used them to disassemble two d30s, replace unit bearings + shafts in another, and some work on my 8.8 as well, they've paid for themselves. The 13mm is the only one I've ever had to hammer on, so if I bust it up too badly I'll buy another one and keep the old one as the "hub bolt removal tool."

One big reason I own alot of crapsman tools is because I live right up the street from them and they are open on weekends when I do most of my work. I have broken a lot of tools either doing stupid stuff, leaving them outside in the weather or just over doing it. I cant remember the size but I recently bought a socket size that a didn't have fairly large and on my first use split up 3 out of 6 sides of thte socket. Drove back and got another. In hindsight for what I was doing with a breaker bar I should have used an impact socket.
