travis if you bring yo tools we can pull the gas skid off at lobsters, i think it was only like 4 bolts, maybee 6, im not gonna pull anything elso off there, everything else is needed to make it moveable

God U-haul needs to get their sh!t together.

I called in last night and was told that the F150 was too light to pull the trailer/MJ. I got a call today and the local guy said it was OK to pull the trailer/MJ, though he would have to take a look at the truck to make 100% sure (which is fine).

The guy also said that the trailers are all snowed in and he is the only one working saturday morning, and he made it sound like it might be tough for me to pick up the trailer at 8AM. I mean really? 2 days notice and your saying "ehhhh, idk, they are snowed in". Though it did sound like a younger guy, sounded like he was just making excuses because he didn't want to be getting in to work at 8AM.

But at least he said yes to me pulling the auto transport with the truck in the end. :thumbup:

I thought that too, but some people are doing it on the cheap (making their own clocking rings/adapters, skipping the 4:1 for a while, etc).

- i will be leaving the stock gearing and making my own plates and shtuff. the most expensive thing is going to be the coupling shaft between the 231 and 300. i'm going to make an extension and support for the 300 off the back of my crossmember too... they're so damn heavy.

Also, having the rear narrower than the front isn't that bad. I don't even notice it on Adam's unless I'm really looking for it.

i just thought of something. i have all the necessary parts to make my own coupling shaft. i have a spare transmission output shaft and i have a spare factory np231 output shaft. chuck them on a lathe, bevel the weld areas, put one in a tail stock, do a very slow rotation on the other, and they should be true. then to heat treat it you could just drop the whole thing into a pan of oil right after you finish welding it (outside). i think i might try do to this.

edit: or i could join them with a press fit pin prior to welding (and still put them on a lathe...)

Shouldn't need a support for the D300.

Chris is running a 231/300 doubler with no extra support for it. (At least the D300 AFAIK)

Shouldn't need a support for the D300.

Chris is running a 231/300 doubler with no extra support for it. (At least the D300 AFAIK)

hasn't he cracked 3 231 cases? the reading on pbb i've been doing says it's highly recommended. i will be running a poly transmission mount too... but i'd like to have something else to help combat how much torque will be being output.

Yes however he stated it's from slamming on the output yoke (I think) and not from the weight of the D300.

You're not running a doubler correct? And stock gearing?

You're not putting out anymore torque than you are now. (D300 is 2.62:1 low range)

good to know that that's why they broke. i didn't know that.

i want to run a doubler eventually. I think I'm going to skip just the D300 and go straight to the doubled 231/300. and i'm going to do it on the cheap. i now think i can do the whole thing for less than $150 + cost of cases (and i'll be selling my 231 w/ SYE).

i'll need:
-2 np231 front output yokes
-to make the coupling shaft out of pieces i have
-adapter plates/coupling ring
-weld the 231 closed
-rig up cable shifters
-make my own internal flip kit pieces.

do able, but it's going to be another winter project like the transmission was this year.

edit: i have an itch on the bottom of the arch of my left foot. and i'm wearing my work boots. aaaargh

and i see your point. but i don't really want to have to deal with it breaking. i'd really prefer that if i land on my driveshaft, my driveshaft breaks (not my cut up 231). i dunno. we'll see when i get there i guess.
