THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

right... hmm...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

id never waste my time installing a v8 into a xj or mj wheelin rig, not alot of room and there just not practical, for a streeet rig hell yeah
That was kinda the reason I decided I would rather put it in a street rig. I figured the 4.0 makes enough torque in stock form and I really don't need the extra power since I will be geared deep enough that it won't matter.

I would love to do it to an MJ, but MJ would have to be VERY clean at the end of the project for me to be happy with it. I.e. I would need to start off with a rust free (or damn close to rust free) MJ.

Which makes me think I could do it to an XJ but if I did it to an XJ I would probably want to use a newer style one just so I could find a very nice rust free and somewhat modern vehicle to start with... but I can't afford the engine plus a new XJ

And my other thought was along the lines of: if I end up keeping the 9" in the XJ and staying at 36s (aka no tons). Could I just steal the axle and all from a camaro or vette. Which in turn got me thinking about keeping it an LSD out back and running traction control from the donor car.

Edit: And it's weird you mention it now... I had thought about doing something like this in the past... but I only started seriously considering going through with it late last week.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

vetts had IRS so scratch that idea, camaros had weak ass 10bolts so also scratch that idea, i was thinkin about a 9" like the one you got from billy thats out of a older ford mucle car or id even go for a mopar 9.75(i think it was that) out of a older mopar car

I Knew the 10 bolt but forgot about the IRS. I mentioned the camaro even though it had the 10bolt just to use as a proof of concept. Get a full parts car (probably not THAT much more expensive than buying the engine alone) and get the TCS working with a 10 bolt out back; Then figure out how to adapt the TCS it to the 9" or some other stronger rear axle. The TCS thought only crossed my mind on the ride home today since I figured I would be using thi vehicles as a DD so the TCS with an LSD could be helpful with winter drivin,. but the more I think about it that's what the 242 is for. Not to mention TCS would probably piss me off. In the rare case that my abs kicks in that alone bugs me enough nevermind traction control

My only difference from what you had said was that I was considering keeping an AX-15 or NV3550. Not a huge difference and I probably should just swap it out, but oh well.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

adapting a axle is a simple as a ujoint, and as far as trans, id go with ls1 just to get the t56

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1018741 i like this crossmember. i would have made the notch narrower, though

fancy

but why dont people mount crossmembers to the side of the framerails?

its much easier and no bolts to get fonculoed up (i know i know countersunk) but thats just extra work and a $30 countersink

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I agree the T56 would be nice, and if I picked up an engine I would probably take the trans with it. I was considering the AX-15 or NV3550 because like I said my original plan was a LQ4 which I believe came with an auto behind it in most applications, so I had planned on keeping the Jeep trans. I suppose it's easier to find a T56 behind a LS1 so it would be worth doing the swap.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i wanna know how they are able to make even the simplest things suck? i bought an anvil from them, FIRST hit with a hammer and i dented it.
I am not too surprised...

how do you screw up making an anvil? :dunno:
You sell it to Ross :D Then he tries to use it and bends it/shatters it/puts large dents in it.

it's on sale right now? hmm... i don't need it but i know someone that will soon. they gave me a coupon book that has some stupid deals in it. i'll probably go back before this sale ends... but then again they alsways have some stupid sale
Yeah, I think I paid like 130 for it, I know it ended up being 160 or so after tax+2 year warranty because I took too long considering the warranty offer so the guy threw a 20% coupon code in and said "well including the warranty it's now cheaper than it was without that code, how about that?" so I went for it. Best emergency purchase ever. However, if you don't really need one ASAP, I know SqueegieSteve has a Duralast sitting around that he was looking to sell... I was gonna buy it, but couldn't get to Boston on my compressed schedule last weekend.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

meh, i'm in no rush really.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

its quiet an experience, huh? i remember walking around and my dad was like hey check out these cheap welders. words cannot express my anger towards them

Wait a second, hold on. When you say it like that, it doesn't really say much.

Lets put this into perspective on how crappy this anvil is. The FIRST hit on that anvil that dented it was from ME. Ross didn't even come close to the thing, so there was no super-human Ross action going on there.

Ross denting an anvil= impressive. Mark denting an anvil = very crappy anvil.

That was a great time though. After Ross told me it was a HF anvil, I laughed and said it would probably dent the first time it was hit with a hammer. I got out a hammer and hit it, and we all had a great time laughing our asses off.

I, sir, stand corrected. Good times indeed.

they had some cheap vises... i'm going to hold off though. there's a huge vice in my basement. too bad it's missing the bolt in the center... so i just cranked the bolt on the side down haha.

i bought $40 worth of grinder, cutoff wheels, and flapper disks... they had 24 grit flappers. i bought them just for kicks. if they work well, sweet. if not, i only wasted $2.47

A vice is not something from HF I would purchase. Some things are surprisingly nice though. I usually keep it to non moving parts except for their orange grinder. Surprisingly there composite ratchets kick ass. They have an awesome grip and pretty fine tooth ratcheting gears and are MUCH tougher than craftsmen ratchets. I like buying a lot one use or little use items as well. Gear pullers and such. There vice grips are surprising nice. I have been trying to break them and haven't yet and I use them everyday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So, guys... I'm kinda sorta tempted to buy Sean's rig and sell my civic then part out most of my Jeep... then hopefully not destroy it, so as to retain DD abilities as well as a very capable Jeep. TEMPTING.
