Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah I had to think the other day when I went for drums & shoes. The guy goes 9" or 10" and I'm staring at him trying to think what rearend I have and which size that takes.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

haha yeah no kidding, thanks now i can pick up the ones i need. i was confused in front of the guy at autozone. usually its the other way around.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah i realized that right after i asked... sweet.

waiting for software licenses is a crappy way to pass the day.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So I'm torn, I'm picking up a ZJ this weekend and I've narrowed it down to 2 but I cant decide on the really nice 98 with the 6 or the 95 with the V8 lift & tires. The onnly reason I'm leaning towards the 98 is I know the motors well and I cant move at my house without hitting a part for one, but the 95 looks awesome with tires and I bet it sounds nice with the flowmaster. Everytime I hear Denny's I want one. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

v8

'nuff said.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do it. Cheap, easy, heck I didn't even have a tape measure, I just used a 6 foot long piece of threaded rod I happened to have and stuck my thumb on it to measure :gee: Came out great. I found the toughest part was getting the TREs on the new one to stop spinning while tightening the semi rusty crown nuts on, at the knuckle end I just put my bottle jack under it and pushed up till it was slightly flexed then cranked the nut down, at the other end I put my problem solver (4 foot piece of 1" iron pipe) behind the tie rod, braced it against something or other, and yanked forward hard while I tightened it down. You'll want some 1/8" x 1.5" stainless steel cotter pins, check the drawers in the hardware aisle at Home Depot, a baggie of 3 is like 89 cents or something. It wasn't even that hard with my front skid plate installed. The only other thing I did to make my life easier was that I removed the adjuster completely and hit the threads on the TRE and tie rod with my angle grinder, then put some antiseize on before reinstalling.
Oh I could do everything easy enough. I have been running on a driveway alignment for the past 40k miles with no (obvious) tire wear issues. And I have done all new steering in the past so I know how to get stuff on and off (explains why I had that "fancy" little tool which worked quite well at the JY :D). I already have cotter pins I think, though I may be running low. I bought a big box of them and lost the box somewhere I think. I know I saw it earlier this year so it's somewhere around. If I don't have any then a piece of coathanger will hold it until I get to home depot for some real pins.

And on a side note: I don't want to work Monday. :grumble:

Edit: V8.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

oh yeah. That fancy tool :moon:

I ended up not needing the one I bought at all this time around, I just put the end of my ratchet handle on it and whacked the head with a hammer till it popped out. Still, it's in the junkyard bag till I need it...

Only reason I mentioned cotter pins is the stainless bit - I really really hate dealing with rusty cotter pins, so I got stainless instead of using the handful of mild steel ones I had around.

I vote V8 as well, even though I know less about those engines.
