Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

will you guys laugh at my d30 if i say it might need pinion bearings?
no, but i'll laugh at you if you actually install them.

Damnit!! i was actaully gunna do them too. Now i knew the slip yoke on my front d-shaft had some play to it, causing the shaft to be a little outta balance so whenever i got to 60mph+ id feel it. above 70-75 was too much. when i was under the jeep yesterday, i noticed that i had a little bit of play at the yoke. jsut pulled the d-shaft now and give it a look. there was a little bit of play side to side and in and out. threw the torque wrench on a found the nut to be a little loose (maybe 150-175#? compared to 210#). that helped a little bit but there is still the slightest bit of play. i went for a ride afterwards without the front d-shatf and OMG what i difference. the jeep is like glass up to 85+. i blame the d-shaft for eating my pinion bearings.

so it looks like ill do new pinion bearings in the front end now.

Red Jeep?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

good point... my mistake.. red jeep: fix it. black jeep: leave it.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

well.... you need to decide that for yourself. and unless you decide that it will die, you're wrong

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i dont really mind doing it, i could tear it apart and do it in a day with a long night and beer. ill drop the carrier and pound out the pinion, use the same shims and just swap the bearings and bamo

ill do this after the Anti-V day run

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

hmm. i've heard you can change carrier bearings without resetting it. is the same true for the pinion bearing?

If that's the case then as long as you're not changing out the ring and pinion then you don't have to reset everything? So then I could essentially rebuild and axle with basic tools so long as I keep the same R & P? Didn't think it was that way but?

Just got done installing my V8 ZJ tie rod and did a driveway alignment, it drives way better. $11 well spent!

i can't wait for Gran Turismo 5 to cone out. But until then Call of Duty, Madden, and NHL 10 will have to do.
