THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks again on that link. I think that the only thing that wasn't explained perfectly well in that page was the years/widths for narrow track FSJ D44's. Or maybe I am just being dumb (or wishing the WMS-WMS values were filled in :))

I THINK I now know what I need: If I want to shorten a HP44 and run high-steer I would need to pick up a 73-77 F150 axle (or through 79 if it came from a supercab) along with the inners/outers/knuckles/hubs/etc from probably a late 80s grand wagoneer.

I hope that's right. I will read more later :gee:

right, but if you want to use a 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern you need to also use the ford's hub and rotor :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

When I rebuilt my RE joints I just replaced the races. The rest of it was is great shape and with a little nickel polish was good to go.

theve held up to a year of severe abuse by me and are still great

I don't care what lug pattern I run so it doesn't matter to me. I was actually just thinking about if there is any benefit to a 6 lug vs a 5 lug pattern.

No matter what I do I will need to buy new wheels and spacers, so it doesn't matter either way. I have the 9" from Billy so that will need a spacer/adaptor from 5x4.5 to whatever I end up with in front. So I figure I might as well just pick up a grand wagoneer axle and a HP44 and do the swap keeping the 6 lug pattern. Anyone have any specific company they recommend for a 5x4.5 to 6x5.5 adapter?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And you need small bearing spindles. 80s wagoneers will have big bearing spindles.
Oh god, now I have to think about spindles? :rof: I was thinking I might be able to (hoping to be able to) just be able to run the shafts, kuckles, spindles, and all from the waggy. son-of-a

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

U-joints are easy. The only "difficult" part about the wheel joints is breaking the hub free... it can be a PITA. If you are ever down this way for everett's again or something you can swing by and change them in the heated garage. Makes life a bit more bearable.

Speaking of junkyards, has anyone been to "self served used auto parts" down in E. Freetown (or Assonet)? I heard they have a pretty good selection and all the vehicles are kept lifted off the ground a bit. I think I might be checking it out this weekend.

i hope you talking about removing the hub from the knuckle and not the shaft from the hub, you can do joints with the hubs still on

ken drive shaft ujoints are easy once you get the hang of it, i use a vice, a socket and 2 nuts, i can do both joints in like 10 mins if i wanted too, now axle joints i use a hammer and a vice and those ive gotten down pretty quick too

Glad they have!

Ken, once you do a set of u-joints you'll understand how easy they really are. Don't sweat them.

On another note, I know this isn't a for sale thread, but I will throw this out as I don't think it really warrants it's own thread in the for sale section.
I've got some e-brake cables from a disc brake ZJ. Decent shape. I ended up not needing them when I did the disc swap on our '99 so they are up for grabs is anyone wants 'em. A "holiday five pack" works for trade if you're kind. :)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

so i worked 7 hrs at work today, first 3 hrs consisted of sitting in a supervisor/managers meeting, after that worked for 1/2 hr the o took my lunch break, then after that i spent 2 hrs putting all the napkins and condiments back on the tables, what a easy day

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

mmm steak. for 24hrs i marinated some sirloin tips in italian dressing, worcestshire sauce, and i threw in some montreal steak seasoning just for good measure... it's yummy.

so to keep the 5 on 5.5, all i have to do is narrow the long side and use a waggy inner. then the rest will stay the same unless i change to flat top knuckles, then i will have to get a different spindle?

For 5x5.5 AND flat top knuckles...

- Your choice of flat tops (except F250s)
- Small bearing spindle (early chevys or FSJs have these)
- Ford Hub/Rotor
- FSJ/Chevy stub shaft
- FSJ/Chevy caliper

For 5x5.5 you can use all ford outers, the above is only if you want to go high steer.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

yeah. for that much it's probably not that good. plus now that I think of it, if it's homemade (probably) it's a pain in the ass to get it on the road in MA for anything over 3,000 lbs. So no worries :) Butttt, if it happens to be registered for over 3k (6 or 7? :dunno:) and not a pile of crap, lemme know :)
