Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

So Ken... I almost hate you right now :roflmao:

You might ask why... well remember how we were joking about breaking stuff on the drive back, and you said something along the lines of "hell, he has a whole axle in the back if he needs it".

Background info: When I got to the UJ party I mentioned I had a weird vibe at 30-35mph according to my speedometer, so 35-40mph actual speed, and mentioned that it only happened while accelerating. One thought that crossed my mind was rear axle but I figured it seemed like it was more of a balance issue since it only happened for a small speed window, but the acceleration part confused me. Well it was worse on the ride home... ALOT worse. i.e. 30mph+ sucked for the most part. As soon as I got off the pike and onto 495 is when it really went downhill. I pulled off at exit 20 or somewhere around there thinking maybe I had blown a u-joint or thrown a cap. Ends up I have somewhere around 5-10 degrees (a rough guess) play in the rear driveshaft :scared:... straight into the axle (so it's not U-joints).

Well I made the remaining hour + drive home and she held up. That was a fun drive. Now that just means I have to get the 9" in.

At least the axle didn't up and die while out in the woods
And my electrical gremlins solved themselves
And was a good night in general
So I guess I can't complain. Night y'all

hahaha wow, that kinda sucks. Wonder what happened to it. At least the 9" is bolt-in.

my boot soles were still frozen solid when I got home, and I had the heat on full blast.

x2. Nice/sorry to hear all at once.

I guess it couldn't have been better timing, and after my drive last night I was expecting the c8.25 to give out soon. The fact that it was catching posi alot and then the sludge I got out of it this morning... wasn't a good sign. Was still catching posi tonight. I *unintentionally* got the Jeep sideways while pulling onto rt 20 while driving to the restaurant we grabbed dinner at. Normally it would spin one tire or slide but then catch... nope, held a perfect posi slide so it was actually predictable and I felt like I was in control. It was nice :D Now I will have a locker. Oh yeah. And when I say *unintentionally* I actually mean that it was completely unintentional, but once I started getting sideways I didn't immediately try and correct it, I just let it go and enjoyed it, possibly with an accidental slight increase in throttle input

I think I may call around locally to find out if anyone sets up gears and can do the carrier bearings in the 9" for a reasonable price. As much as I am sure I could do them on my own, I want to be sure the gears are set up properly and knowing my luck I will fack something up.

Speaking of which. Anyone know someone local who does gearing and could do the carrier bearings of the 9"? At the same time I would be looking to have my D30 re-geared, so I would be looking to get that done also. Would be able to deliver axles out of Jeep if that is easier. Let me know if there is any recommended shop around here on the south shore (preferably south coast of MA within 20-30 min of the Halifax area, but I could deal with anywhere along 495 up to the Franklin area).

OR does anyone who knows how to set up gears and do that stuff want to come over and teach me what the hell I am doing to set up gears? I would love to learn myself but would rather be sure these are done right and installed asap (so I can be wheeling by mid feb at latest). I will learn when I am taking my time and building my next set of axles.

That makes me think, you have a posi which is a brand of LSD, right? Did you add the friction modifier to the diff fluid?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks, and same to you!

Nope, no posi/LSD. open/open. I just said it was catching posi (so it was acting like it had posi even though it doesn't).

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Do you remember the comment? Judging by the context and knowing that you were probably wasted from the UJ party last night, it didn't really seem like something you'd have posted otherwise (it was deleted, yeah...)
