Look under the hood. 3 bolts and a plug and it's out. Really simple.

Awesome. Good to know, guess it's something that I will just put off until I need it then.

Edit: Sweet, just happened to check and I have officially hit 1.00 posts per day. Bout damn time :laugh:

Let me know how that works out for you, if it happens or better yet completely shut off your heat for 3 or 4 days the next time it snows. If I had to I would but when you can see your breath and wearing gloves to drive, not to mention no defogger kinda sux. I kept my daughter home from pre-school on Monday because I wouldn't let her ride in the cold.

Haha, agreed. When I broke the heater and it was early afternoon I didn't think much of it (other than that it was cold as hell on the way to Boston). But I was already awake and functioning so I could deal with the cold better. Waking up first thing in the morning and having no heat REALLY sucks. Autozone had to order the part for me and it took a couple days to get in. Waking up and driving first thing in the AM home and then the next day to work without heat was miserable.

And now for something different, a random thought process about lift and getting the Jeep on the road brought me to a question... How "fast" will your steering wheel go off center if you lose lift? I.e. will losing half an inch lift cause much rotation of the steering wheel?

After taking my Jeep out of storage I noticed my track bar relocation bracket was shifting a bit (heard a clunk while steering sometimes), so I am going to get that tightened up tonight... but I didn't think I noticed the steering wheel being off center at all. Recently, I installed the new bumpers and didn't notice too much of a decrease in ride height, but that doesn't mean there wasn't any. When I took the Jeep around the block I noticed the steering wheel was something around 10% off center IIRC. Does the steering wheel being about 10% off center sound about right after adding bumpers and weighing down the front end a bit?

mmm......mini circle track racing around the backyard in the snow:D the ground is nice and frozen with a snow layer on top, perfect for sliding.

I think my brain just exploded at the thought of trying to set that up, even thinking about setting one R&P up is making me wonder if I should just pay for it to be done... would not want to try and set a R&P&P up.

Oils (trans, t-case, and diff): Check
RTV black: Check
Torq wrench: eh.... f*** it. "that should be tight enough" has got me though enough projects so far
bottle pump: check
drain pan: check
motivation to go dig Jeep out of the snow and move my brothers vehicle so I can get the Jeep out from where it is currently parked: non-existent.

So to make it short, maybe I won't be working on the Jeep tonight :laugh: why do today what you can put off till tomorrow, right? I even have all the stuff to do it "correctly" and make it an easy project. Maybe I will dig it out tonight and move it to a better parking spot, then swap fluids tomorrow hwen I get home before going for a drive.

Edit: I am also starting to question the integrity of my homemade fuel tank J-bolts. Yeah they work great when the Jeep isn't moving... I'm just curious if they will straighten out once I get on the road and hit some pot holes. I really should have welded a nut onto each bend at the top but I was on a tight schedule the day I installed the tank (I did plan on removing them and welding on nuts before hitting the street). Maybe I will do that on friday.

i sorta have motivation to work on my axles, but its cold in the container. i can get the heater going, but if i grind i gotta open the windows and i lose all the heat.

Ya I'm with Bump, there is no way in HELL I'm driving around another winter without heat. What do you think one of the two main reasons why I got rid of the red jeep was for? It didn't have heat.

I'm not busy if you want me to punch you in the back of the head until you get off your ass and make sweet axles. :smoker:

I'd be working on the Comanche right now if I could. It's not that cold out.

The Jeep started and moved under its own power again! :party: And shifted very nicely too (didnt grind reverse at all even after warming up all the way... though I always went 1 -> R). Hopefully cycling the clutch fluid got enough of the bad stuff out. Now the Jeep is defrosting in the garage. Tempting to crank the thermostat up to 80 to put the garage in quick defrost mode :laugh:

Not by choice surely, but if I needed to get to work etc I would - I keep a pair of milsurp wool gloves in my jeep when I don't forget them at friend's houses. They were warm enough to keep me alive driving from Haverhill to Worcester in 20 degree weather with no window. With that for reference, no heat doesn't seem too too bad... lol

my girlfriend has been driving her jeep all winter with no heat to greenfield and back everyday. you guys are XXXXXXs.

on a side note, ill pay someone 100 to do a heater core in a 96 xj.
