THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Oh, missed that 5 speed post. I will now chime in :D

I had a strange issue with mine after replacing my clutch. Even with a touch of threadlocker my top two bolts on the bellhousing backed out a bit (the inverse torx bolts) which resulted in similar behavior. I would check to make sure everything is tight.

And I also always had to do the 1st-> reverse thing. warm or cold I have always had to do it. Never thought anything of it.

I don't think cold weather would really cause much of a change. I actually found that my clutch felt weaker during the summer when it was hot. I suppose you could have a bad master and/or slave, but no guarantees. I think I had a weak clutch (not too bad, but weak none-the-less) before I put the Jeep away. It was miserable and useless when i took it out of storage. I cycled the clutch fluid (just filled the master with fresh fluid, pumped clutch a number of times, cycled master with fresh fluid again, pump, repeat). That improved clutch feel quite a bit. Old fluid will do that. If you haven't already done so, try flushing your system with new fluid from a freshly opened bottle. See if that helps at all.

4.25" of BS on my 15x8's enough for 33x12.50? I completely forgot about the BS on my wheels and I'm buying 33's on Thursday.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Hmmm, 5.25" on 15x7s and 11.50 tires is zero clearance, so even ignoring the 8" wide rim benefit, you should have at least 1/2" clearance on each side I think.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Just do it. I have no idea what backspacing the wheels on my J10 are. I checked to make sure they were 16.5" wide and bought them. My tires fit on them.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I'm doing it anyways, don't really have a choice because I just don't have enough money to buy 5 new wheels. It's puckering my butt hole just buying these tires.

x2! i have no idea what mine are, they dont rub tahts all i care about

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

That's how I ended up with my current rims that barely clear my springs :shiver:

Thus why I am obsessing over making sure I get it right this time.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I need some diagnostics:
My clutch, according to the previous owner, was done in the summer and has <5000 miles on it. My tranny has bit into 2nd gear for the past few weeks, but i've been able to avoid it mostly. In the past weeks I've found the clutch engages extremely low. to the point that when i'm sitting in traffic and i notice my foot comes off the floor a half inch from sitting there, i can feel it start to engage.

I can't figure how much to chalk up to extremely cold starts but.....

In the past 4-5 days it's been grinding into reverse until it warms a bit and i do the 1st-R trick. grinding as if the clutch isn't down even when it is.
it's also nearly impossible to shift into other gears sometimes.
The clutch catches insanely low, like a half inch off the floor.

My question is, assuming the clutch is in fact fine, what could this be attributed to? could i have a bad master/slave? tranny? am i just being overly sensitive about the cold issues? could i just have a shitty clutch?

Change the tranny fluid. Use some synthetic or high end gear oil. Then bleed the hydraulic system.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Let me make this simple for you Ken.

12.5" wide tire on 8" wide rim will clear, just ask Adam (he runs an 8.8)
OK cool. Thanks for being as patient as you guys are with my stupid questions :dunce:

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

8" rim with 3.5-4" BS

Trim fenders as needed!
Yeah, I'm looking at 7" and 8" rims with 4" BS, can't find any in my price range with 3.5" (not surprised.) I'm not worried about trimming (will be doing so) - I am worried about clearing my springs and fender wells. I can't solve leaf spring clearance issues without going to a monocoil in the rear or only using my shocks, I hear that if you get good enough shocks you don't need rear springs...

(yes I am joking)

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You could always notch out the leafs where the tires rub! :D
