THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

does Travis's Jeep count? also my moms jeep is rust free(98)
I guess.
How many Vermonter's we got around here?
Yes and no. I've got a place in Northern VT, whereabouts are you?
I would love a nice diesel truck, but hearing that maybe I will avoid one. I was kicking around last night and found a 06 WRX STi for $13,300 that was quite tempting. Also found a 06 Dakota, V8, 6-speed, 4wd that was somewhat tempting, though I would prefer extended cab and that one was standard cab.

:dunno: I really just want to get something other than my Altima, would love a truck but can't spend too much and need a manual.

Part of me wants a "smaller" truck it would be my DD (seeing something like 60 miles per day... so the closer to 20mpg highway it gets the better, (i.e. dakota rated at like 18mpg highway). Not to mention I kindof want a smaller truck as it could be 'funner' to drive and that's part of what I want. :D Granted, being able to tow the Jeep wouldn't be bad (at least short distances), but it's not a hard requirement.
I can't speak on STi's as I just don't like the import scene (unless they are Italian or German).
I will say don't get the Dakota. My father's got one with the 4.7L V8 and he drives very "easy" and he can't even touch 15-16mpg. He had the 5.2L V8 in his older Dakota and got better mileage.
I've got the 5.3L in my Chevy and as a bunch of people can attest I get about 20mpg on the highway and 18 around town. My buddy has a 4.8L and he gets much worse mileage in the exact same truck. The little engines just have to work harder.

So, either get a tiny truck with a tiny engine and hate the lack of power or a bigger truck with a big engine. Just don't go in between.
I didn't have to buy good batteries. I could have gotten away with spending $200.
Did you get the die-hard platinums?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I ended up with a Duralast Gold when I replaced mine right after thanksgiving... probably not the best, but so far it's doing pretty ok.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i love my old optimas before they went crappy

when those go i plan on getting die hard plaitnums

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

if i ever had the choice i would get an interstate megatron

CPS or NSS? Those are my bets.

Someone buy this so I don't.

EDIT: I see another for 300 that needs some work but is from florida and claims little to no rust.

Wish I had known enough to fix this kind of stuff when I bought my XJ a year and a half ago... lol

Why are you only tempted to buy total pieces of junk?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Because they cost so little :dunce:

Also, the intent with this one would be to buy it, fix the electrical issues, then sell it again. I don't need a second XJ right now.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Yeah. I figured my batteries are going to go out on me when I break my jeep up in NH at 10:00 at night and I'm ready to tow home at midnight.

That would BLOW.
Sweet.
Yes, yes it would.

To me it sounds like more than an electrical issue.
anyone know where i can get body mounts for a ranger.
Try your local Ford dealer or SummitRacing?

Yeah, if I end up going and looking at it, I'll be walking away unless I'm damn certain it's something I can fix for under a hundred.

The add says it hasn't been driven in 2 years. There will be a lot more maintenance than that electrical issue to take care of to get it in good enough shape to sell it again.

I learned my lesson, I'm not buying another cheap piece of crap again.

I have never heard of a common problem where the AW4 shuts the Jeep down. This is how I used to score some cheap Jeeps, Ill informed owners. I once fixed a cherokee in the guys driveway and drove it up the trailer. He thought the motor was blown.

I wish I knew. Theres an Interstate Battery dealer down the street from me and he gives good deals and sells refurbs cheap w/warranty.

That's awesome, but I'd kinda feel like a dbag :D

Damn. Oh well, Adam got me 10% off the Die-Hards anyway...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Colin, at least you didn't need to buy a new battery for a Prius! talk about $$$

ps - come by and diagnose if you think I have bad wheel bearings or bad pinion bearings...or if it's something else all together.

That's my suspicion, personally. I want to see it in person and figure out what's wrong with it before I decide anything. Also, the routine maintenance I can think of is brakes (since they've been sitting for so long, betting the rotors are rusted to the pads, etc), oil change, tranny fluid change, coolant change, brake flush, maybe diff fluid change and TC fluid change, plus flushing the old gas out of the tank and refilling. Could need a battery too. Am I stupid and missing anything?

That's awesome, but I'd kinda feel like a dbag :D
I might too, but hey, the guy's gonna get suckered by someone and it might as well be me. We temp fixed the "bad oil leak" on my friend's MJ in the PO's driveway with $15 worth of hose, clamps, and tranny fluid, then drove it 30 miles home on route 9. It does need a lot more work though lol - like, thousands worth at a garage. Parts will total less than 500 though!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sometimes people are too lazy to check for the little things. When my bud bought his jeep it "needed all new brakes". 78 cents later I fixed the leaky end near the wheel cylinder and his brakes work mint to this day.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

To answer questions I saw while skimming through (been busy all afternoon, couldn't keep up for once )

STi: Nothing seemed wrong with it at all, though that doesn't mean there is nothing wrong with it. Might be someone like me. I was about to unload my Altima for a bit less than I owe on it, just to get rid of a payment (and buy a cheaper car with $$ had already saved up like I should have done in the first place). I put a reasonably good down payment on the car so I could probably unload it for what I owe now and just break even. Might be someone doing the same thing OR be someone who can't make payments on it anymore and just wants to sell it quick and use the $$ he makes to pay off the loan and not have the car repo'ed :dunno:

Ranger: Looked at them, will have to look again. :D

And my Jeep was sitting for 18 months and it is running great now. I don't see what it will "defiantly need" :dunno: yeah it may need some odds and ends, but nothing MAJOR if it was put away in OK condition and wasn't left in the middle of a field being overgrown or anything. Mind you I didn't look at the ad, so maybe I am missing something. But just a thought.. Maybe I will buy it if I look at the link  Only thing I can think of that stopped working or went wrong in the 18 months of storage are that the track bar relocation bracket is clunking again, gotta tighten that down. and the heat/AC control now is either on or off... no in between. someone mentioned it may be some resistor under the passenger side dash, not sure. I still think it may be a vacuum line that got attacked by a mouse. We will see. I hope its not vacuum line. I would rather not re-run the lines :banghead: Oh well, I still have heat.. but its either heat or not heat. I thikn I can pass inspection like that... right? Just gotta have heat...?
