THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wow thanks, DOM is definitely a no brainer then. If I had wanted to go 1.25 sch40 it might have made sense but I don't trust it on a vehicle my size. Now I just need to decide if I want the speedway or whatever bender($399 including a 1.75 die) or make my own but I believe dies are $300 on their own..?
My Pro-Tools, 1.75", 6" radius, 240 degree die (for 180 degree bends) was about $300 shipped. The 110 degree bend die is a bit cheaper if you don't need to go over 110 degrees or you want to compare it to the speedway 90 degree one. Edit: Looks like the going price is $206 for the 110 degree, and $277 for the 180 degree, plus shipping.
Honestly, you could probably get away with and be fine with HREW.
Watch the steel prices as they change every day. I ordered mine when it was low and stored it for a couple weeks until I needed it.

where the hell do you store 300 feet of tube
My father and I built a rack from some 2x4s and 2x6s and it sits along the wall on one side of the garage. Kinda neat, it keeps it off the floor and nice and dry.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Thanks for the offer though. I'll definitely add tube when I go the 2x6 route, as it has saved my doors numerous times.

fock ya

my green jeeps doors got all screwed up in a year of wheeling

i did some 2x6 to my white jeep and the 2 front doors are dentless (rears kissed some trees and a maybe a rock)

I'll price it out when I get closer to that point. I've got alot more practice to do with welding. As well as reading, I'm doing alot of reading in manuals and forums on welding/fabrication. I'm trying my best to start understanding metals and methods of working with them. There might be someone that will want to split the cost of a bender with me when it comes time and I'll try and borrow a welder to weld it up that way I can do it as cheap as possible.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I wish my millermatic 135 was enough to weld a cage/bumpers. I don't want to spend more on another welder... would rather spend the money on steel/tools/Jeep parts

It's been done, the limitation of 110v welders is usually around 1/8(1.25) to 3/16(1.87) and tubing used is usually .120. You'd be working at or very close to your welder's max and wouldn't be loving your duty cycle not to mention a bigger welder would throw down a much nicer deeper/wider bead. It would be a hell of alot more work but it's been done.

Yeah, the thickness is within spec (3/16 is what mine is supposedly rated to) but it wouldn't be "fun" :) I was just figuring the 135 might not give me a deep enough bead. I can deal with the duty cycle.. just have to work slow.. and I do that anyway

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It wouldn't be ideal and you'd have to be 100% confident you could do it. Enough friendly people own 220v machines that i'm not going to try.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

The duty cycle is just an excuse to sit around drinking beer while the welder cools down

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the font color is like the same color as the truck haha

the new GTI intake is on... bastard i bought it from didn't send me all the hardware. so i used spare bolts from the jeep i had laying around that were the correct thread sizes.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Anyone else need wiring harness wrapping tape? The nice non adhesive, cling film type that is used for most of the wiring harnesses in an XJ, not the adhesive-goop-from-hell black cloth friction tape they use at the ends. The minimum order I can put in is 16 rolls @ 3 bucks a roll and I'm not gonna need more than 4 or 5 rolls, so if anyone wants to take a few rolls off my hands at-cost, now's your chance.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
