THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i've been writing writing writing for our senior capstone project paper and presentation that are due tuesday, doing some finite elemental analysis on some of the parts we have designed to confirm they won't break immediately (especially the part I have already made), and have gotten shit DONE. too bad i still have a ton of stuff to do and it won't be done until i'm on the plane to arizona!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Me and my XJ had a fight today....I won the battle but I think my xj won the war. I replaced the radiator, got rid of my AC parts (dont need or use them), replaced my starter relay, belt, and front output seal on the trans case. While replacing the seal a large screw driver flew outta my hands and bounced off the undercarriage and hit me below my eye. Now my eye is all swollen and my head hurts. It made me have to stop working, I was going to replace the oil filter adpter o rings and change the diff fluid but now I feel like Im gonna puke. Poor me!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Capstone is our big senior design project for us mechanical engineers at northeastern. it's a shittton of work, and essentially is a cumulation of everything we have learned in the past four years. The projects are very complex, and go from initial background research all the way to prototyping and testing, within six months. at least a few groups a year end up filing patent applications and some of the projects become pretty sucessful. our project doesn't really have much of a marketshare, but it'll be working. so far i've done a lot of the background research, specification developement, force analysis, geometry analysis, part designing and detailingn, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, doing the production drawings, stress analysis on the parts, and some finite elemental analysis as well. ontop of 3 other classes!

4.56 gears+stock tires=alot of tire smoke

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

u got your hands full.
sounds like your getting some great training/experience tho!
i always regretted not going to school for engineering.
my best friend got a scholorship for engineering outta hs.
i chose criminal justice then decided not to be a cop.
oh well.i can always go back for something else i guess.

Damn you ok?

Damn you ok?

yeah im feeling better thanks! at least im making progress on my rig. I want to get all the basic mechanical work done before the nasty weather moves in. altho it seems like the little things never end!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

You can get a flange adapter from a gran marquis, or get an adapter u-joint. The gran marquis adapter is for a 1310 u-joint.
Thanks a ton for that info - I'll have to go back Monday or something and grab one.

Keith - oops, already got an 8.8 this morning at the junkyard (4.10, no LSD - excuse to get a locker shortly, needs brakes, everything else is perfect.) I knew I should have checked naxja before leaving.

Oh my god...
<snip>
:shocked: that is BADASS! I think he might be a little top heavy though...

ken i got 2 8.25s 29spl, one is just missing axle shafts. one 307 one 355
I think at this point I'm all set... unless I end up selling the 8.8 and doing something else. Thanks though!

ps, I like the junkyard so much more when I go armed with a 3ton hydro jack, a breaker bar, and a sawzall. Getting the damn axle out from between the frame and springs was still a hell of a party, and I ended up ripping the shocks off the frame with my bare hands after running out of sawzall batteries and getting pissed off.

From what I hear those LSDs suck anyway. Not to mention they're a pain to take apart.

Maybe but probably not too bad. Especially if they took a little lift out. M715 can fit 38-40s stock. The 715 springs are stiff but in a SOA configuration I've seen them flex pretty damn good.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

also - Colin, thanks for telling me to get a mapp/oxy torch back when I was doing my lift... didn't need it then, but it sure as hell made getting the flange bolts on the 8.8 out easier! Couldn't budge em with my breaker bar under the Explorer at the junkyard, so I ended up just throwing the damn thing around until the slip joint in the middle of the driveshaft came apart, then slashed at the rubber boot till it tore in half and dragged it out of the junkyard with half a driveshaft still on it. a little PB-blaster and 5min with the torch and they were out.

EDIT: carmelo, yeah not surprised - I read online while searching for 8.8 info that 03-06 explorers were known for having issues with the LSDs, and a lot of pissed off customers as a result.

alright... off to drink beer and cut perches off an 8.8!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I just got back from dinner and I worked 8-2 today (I can take some time off during the week now - sweeeeeeet).

Ken, yeah the torch setup pays for itself fast. Always good to have around. My dad and I are looking at a nice setup with two fairly large tanks. I forget what size, but I can't imagine we'd fill them more than once a year.

If I lose in ROTM again, I won't bother trying anymore :roflmao:

I just voted for you, buddy :) you're in the lead by one at the moment!

So...no matter what, you won't be entering ROTM again?

Phew, I thought we were going to have to deal with that crap forever.

:D
I still haven't voted yet, I'll see what the deal is in a few days, then I'll make an informed decision on who to vote for...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

that sucks. mine's fine...
