Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
Colin answered this pretty well, but….
I don't think I am going to build a 60:
No pressure from me, however… LAME! Answer
ALL my questions and I'll drop the subject forever.
Did you do the itemized list like I asked you? At this point I am putting down $5 that says you can do the swap for within $500 of the D44 swap. You have bolt in stuff you can sell like your 8.8, it is not like you have a D35 worth nothing.
2. I will need to change the front suspension (probably a 3 link)
WHY? Sure, DBs aren't the most ideal, but you run them now so they’ll continue to work.
This is an excuse because you need reasons not to do it.
3. I would need to buy new wheels and tires
So… sell your current ones after the swap to make your money back.
Again this is an excuse because you need reasons not to do it.
As we figured out last night, 2-3” wider. No big deal.
5. Lots more unsprung weight
When did you become a desert racer? This has little effect on wheeling out here.
Yet, again this is an excuse because you need reasons not to do it.
6. I'd have to build a rear axle as well
So? A rear is simple, nothing to it.
Jesus, stop already this is an excuse because you need reasons not to do it.
7. different drivesahfts?
You might need to modify your driveshaft for the D44 anyway. Simple and cheap, heck do it yourself even.
Your fishing for excuses with a cargo net now...
8. i'm not sure how big of a tire i'm going to run (i'm thinking 37's will be it for me for this Jeep)
36s or 37s would be fine.
Feed the inchitis and stop the excuses.
9. I'd have to stiffen the unibody even more than I have to with the 44.
How did you come to this conclusion? Do to the slightly heavier weight? Either way you should have the same reinforcements.
You have more excuses than a 14 yr old girl that was caught sneaking around at night.
10. I don't have a DD I can drive while putting togethor this Jeep.
Why can’t you build the D60/whatever rear on the side like you are planning on doing for the D44?
this whole swap thing is a wicked PITA...I decide that i've made up my mind and then another thing swings my decisions in a different direction.
And nobody is going to convince me going one way or the other. It's just your opinion about doing what is probably going to be right for me. I do want to do it the right way so now this raises the question:
What front suspension?
Would Coilovers make things easier?
Fabricated crossmember?
You are getting WAY ahead of yourself. For the love of god, stop fishing for excuses already.
None of that is needed. None. Build that later.
Not when your rig weights a bunch.
noooooo my warranty old man emu springs are on "backorder" and they aren't going to ship until mid october! They'll ship as soon as they get them supposedly, but booo now i dont know if i'll be able to wheel on the third. maybe i'll have to make some sort of hardcore bumpstop plate so i can have 1" uptravel and whatever downtravel
at least theyre free though, right?
At least they are standing behind their product, backorder or not.
