THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i've had 2 mechanics tell me its the rubber inside the stainless lines

Did they recommend an easy way of testing to see if that is the case (besides disconnecting the line from the caliper, pumping the brake pedal and just letting it piss into a bucket)?? It seems that both of my front calipers are stickng too on the MJ.

Just another side test you may have already done, but have you checked for divots in the knuckle caused by the pads? I've seen this on some XJs and could cause a sticky caliper condition.

just texted a girl i know who works there, she said its cancelled because it's *supposed* to rain. then again, she could be totally full of shit. haha. if i were you and had no other plans, i'd still go just for the hell of it. if nothin else, get yourself some good ice cream :) and maybe with some luck Lee was lying and the show's on. A brake hose problem like this can take two forms.
First, it can act like a restrictor in the line. Second, it can act like a check valve. In the first case, with a restriction the car will pull to the side with the good brake hose upon initial application of the brakes, but after a second or two, the pull goes away. Because the caliper needs a relatively large volume of fluid to move the piston, the side with the collapsed hose will apply later than the one with the good hose. This is because it takes longer to get enough fluid volume into the caliper to move the brake pad against the rotor. This is why the pull can be extreme on the initial pedal application, but the pull goes away as the fluid slowly moves the piston.
In the "check valve" situation, fluid will freely flow into the caliper, but will not return to the master cylinder. This can mimic a stuck piston, as the caliper will fail to fully release.

OK, I'll have to play with that some more then. When it first started happening, the brake pedal got real firm. I would step on the gas and the MJ would automaticaly brake itself in about 15 yards. This was while doing some slow trail riding (maybe 5-10 mph). It was definitely smoking a bit too. Both front wheels felt equally hot though, so that leads me to think it isn't a problem at the wheels. I stopped and let it cool off for about 30-45 mins, then drove it home 15 miles with no issues (no major brake dragging, no smoke). The brakes felt normal. :dunno:

I have the front end on jackstands right now with the tires on, and it feels like the brakes are dragging more than normal. I need to pull the wheels off and try to turn the rotor, I know how much drag the brakes should put on the rotor, but its hard to tell with the wheels/tires mounted up.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

on the plus side it looks to be no rain for sat

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it is POURING here right now!! I dunno how it is near you rob, but if it's like this, even if the rain slows down/stops before tomorrow it'll still be pretty soupy haha

...sweet. :D

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

shit thats riht i gotta go to walmart and get batteries and memory cards :) orrrr I could spend 5 minutes at the house and find some :laugh3: haha

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sweet.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

gonna replace frt pads and rotors, to try and help my shitty brakes, and replace the stripped crossmember bolt

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Nah never been there, is it in Boston? Whereabouts?

On my campus on Forsythe street, if you are going towards Ruggles T station.
If you walk down Huntington to Forsythe, and turn right onto it going to Ruggles, its basically a shack on the left side of the street.

Everything you order has wierd names, i.e. Cholesterol is a bacon, egg and cheese. If you order a Sex on a bagel, its a sausage egg and cheese on a bagel. Spicey fries with Motion Lotion. There is the famous TKO, which is a chicken sandwich, you can get a heavyweight TKO, a Double stuffed sex on a bagel, etc.
