Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread
Picked up my new axles today!!!! I was coming back from picking them up and happened to notice a FREE sign on the side of the road. It was 3 stock 8 lug rims with roller tires. BAM!!! i was short one so I grabbed them so I have a complete set now. Turns out they were ford rims and even had the same size tires. Got the axles home and had them unstrapped from the trailer for about 6 minutes before evil thoughts took over. Got the torch and cut the old sway bar, brackets, and track bar setup off.
Version 1 plans
-Narrow long side about 4.5", should put the width to somewhere right around 65"
-Plan is to run stock shafts for now, theres an OEM D60 inner shaft that is the right length, 32ish", but no one seems to make it and they are rarier then hens teeth. I will mostly like have a stock shaft resplined or have a stock alloy made to the OEM specs
-Trim off cast leaf spring mount
-Weld tubes to center section
-Truss the hell outta it
(I'm thinking 3"x3" 0.250" wall rect tube over the center section and 2"x4" 0.250" wall rect tube on the tubes)
-Shave the bottom and plate it with like 1/2"-3/4" plate, grooved to clear the ring gear)
-Ruffstuff cover kit chopped to match the shave
-Run the new Super 60 gears, ratio undecided (bigger then reg 60 gears, but still fit fine)
-A locker, also undecided
-Normal rebuild stuff of all the bearings and seals
-Modify brakes to run 15" steel wheels, I've heard you can do it with the ford twin piston calipers so thats my first option, if not, GM stuff
