yea i really dont see the spacers being a critical weld so i guess ill get them glowey ish and weld it all in then bury them in the sandpile out back and hope noone gets them with the loader hehe

I always preheat with a torch, does not have to be glowing, but hot. Weld it up. Then keep a little heat on it with a torch for a few mins. Rap it up, or cover with my welding gloves or welding blanket. The reason for the post heat is so its cools down much slower. For the same reason you don't want to take something really hot and put cold water on it.
