THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

psh, hey, whatever. Karma's a bitch though, and I've got quite the twisted mind...sleep well you bastards.

:D Glad you guys actually had it all worked out. I had a feeling none of you would be ok with leaving it like that but having the personality I've got, just shrugged my shoulders

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

nice job finding 2 good pictures of a broken ring gear bolt and a 44 with an aussie though...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i have a virtual beach on my floor of the jeep.
and now it sounds like there is angry chipmunks under my hood.
but at least i was able to get through and out.
and nothing else broke.
yay?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Looks like fun Glenn!
Ok, I'm spilling the beans on this, read below.
Thanks for playing along, I know you know that things went well.

It was a Yukon. The only thing odd I found was 11thou shims over the more standard 10thou shims.

Ok, sorry Colin, Mark, Ross and Adam, I have to come clean before Mark's post gets burried to deep in this thread without anyone really commenting about it. :( Then someone thinks we actually left it like that.
So I for one thought that there would be a HUGE outcry and 3 or 4 pages in this thread about the pictures Mark posted. Of course we would NEVER even think about leaving anything like that.
It all started when we had finished and were all eating dinner when Travis sent out a pretty muh nationwide text and asked all of us what was going on with it. We thought we'd play a joke on him (sorry buddy) and told him we broke a ring gear bolt. One thing lead to another and we staged the above pictures along with the horrible pattern. Again, those are staged pictures and are not real! Although, I am displeased to tell you, Yukon does have that listed as "acceptable".
The truth is after spending most of the day chasing parts, we NAILED the pattern in 3 trys in a little over two hours. Ended up with a darn near perfect pattern, 7 thou backlash, and 18in*lb pinion preload. Colin is happy along with the rest of us.

Mark has the real pictures and I'm sure he'll post up soon.

Darn, I was really hoping that would be a good joke.
Yes, we all thought it would be a good joke. We at least all had fun doing it.

The real truth was we spent more time running all over to get parts than we did installing the gears. 3rd time putting the carrier in, (2nd time running a pattern), we had it nailed. The first time we ran a pattern, it was definitely acceptable, but we decided to make it better (or there wasn't enough backlash?)

psh, hey, whatever. Karma's a bitch though, and I've got quite the twisted mind...sleep well you bastards.

Bill especially, but we all kept saying Karma is going to come back and bite us in the ass on this one. Colin is going to get like 100 miles down the road and it really is going to break.

Ha, we took those picture. First, we had Ross (who is a complete beast by the way. Never do a gear install without a "Ross." He hit 200ft-lbs on the pinion nut without breaking a sweat) take Colin's old D30 ring, and tighten an old bolt until it snapped, which wasn't hard.

We then wipped off the old gear marking compund, and repainted an area in which Colin took a rag and made that pattern.

Here is the true pattern we have.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

we deffinently went through way too much effort to make it look like the worst regear job ever, only to have our plan backfire and have nobody give us crap for such horrible things like broken bolts and bad patterns. We spent WAY too much timing gettin nothing accomplished, there were jsut too many destractinos. figures colin's dad and brother decided to wake up the hemi challenger, road runner, and chargers while we were there.

Haha... very true on all accounts. Great day though, I had a ton of fun!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

the next NACwrenchfest should be a non-jeep related job, such as a tranny swap in a 72 nova:D

all participants will be rewarded with beer and the opportunity to drive it themselves.

You know I'm down man, let me know the day.

I thought that joke would be a good one...oh well. Should have posted it in mod tech "Is this an acceptable pattern? Oh and I broke a ring gear bolt, it's ok to use still right?"

Yeah karma might be a b1tch...oh well.

On a side note, got the 44 all assembled again with the newly full-circle c-clipped stock shafts and fresh 760s (Thanks to Ross for bringing his chop saw and grinding 'em out for me!)

And another note...my laptop is officially broken. Gonna go to the IT department at school and have them issue me a new one.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i have a loud popping noise coming from my jeep when driving, it has somthing to do with the steering, everything in tight, iloked around the steering box and theres no signs of any cracks, i think the steering box is bad but would it be making the poping noise or could it be somthing else?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

And btw, I know you guys already heard it a bunch of times, but thanks again to all of you for helping me.

You have know idea how much I appreciate what you guys did.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

I thought when I read those posts and saw the pics that it was kind of odd, especially with it being new and from what I've read you guys seem to be sticklers, as you should be with that stuff. I didnt post anything because I was busy and to damn hot plus I really didnt think it would be left that way and later we would get the post saying we went back and fixed it. Glad everything worked out Colin.

doing a pedal swap too correct? ;) I'd be down for hanging out/helping where I can for the day. Would be a good time! Be sure to post up whenever you'll be doing that.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

if i hadnt found the tranny i bought, i was very close to spending a couple extra bucks and coneverting it to a 4 spd. looking back, i really shoulda considering the fact i already needed a new shifter, new brake pedal and linkage, and a new tranny anyways.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

it's not too late!!!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

speaking of tranny swap, my dad and i just finished wrestling with the tranny and it's now out of the jeep. nowhere in the FSM does it mention the starter has to come out to remove the transmission. figures after a lot of wiggling, swearing and pulling do we realize there were starter bolts in there.

the harbor freight tranny jack adapter sucks, btw. it's pretty much useless.

the exhaust had to take one for the team too, sadly but the transmission kept sitting on the exhaust and would not slide away since the lip kept getting stuck on the exhaust pipe, and because we couldnt'g et a good balance on the tranny/tcase assembly the sawzall was broken out to get it the XXXX outta the way.

anyways off to shower and go to bed! anthony i'll come out this week with the old tranny to grafton and switcheroooo

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Glad you finally got it out :) i did the same with my exhaust, kind of sucks but whatever. swapping in my header and getting 2.5 back was on the to-do list, but keeps getting lower and lower on the list :-\ The stock downpipe/crossover/whatever just ended up getting welded back and it's been like that since. Good luck getting the new guy in :) are you doing the clutch at the same time I hope? might as well seeing as you're right there anyway.

I wish I had more time, I'd love to come give you a hand with it... Maybe I could come down for a few hours this weekend potentially. LMK when you'll be working on it and I'll offer help if I can :)
