Well I got this XJ with a bad 2.5l in it. Colin and Cmelo were over the house, about a week or so, and we decided to start it up and see what was going on. It started with a jump but sounded like azz and really loud. So today I pulled the motor to see what was up. Can you see whats wrong?

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

there appears to be a lack of metal in the area to the rear of the motor mount

that may or may not be the issue

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

that rod wanted to play peekaboo!

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Alright, so that sucked. We're done, thankfully, because that was a long day/night.

We found that the torque specs that we found were completely wrong for the ring gear bolts, as we snapped one inside the ring gear before we reached what we though was the specified torque. After screwing around with it forever, and having no luck of extracting it, Colin just said f*ck it since he didn't want to buy another set of gears, so we just threw it in minus one ring gear bolt.

Then we just couldn't get a good pattern no matter what we tried. And what was worse was we ended up running out of usable shims (they honestly don't supply you with enough in those damn install kits, and they supply you with too many of the large shims which don't help)
So, we ended up with this pattern. Its not ideal, but it is listed in the Yukon Gear's acceptable pattern page. We also figured that since it the axle has lockouts, its not a big deal, as the gears will only be run on the trail.

I'm definitely not claiming to know how to read gears more than you, ross or bill but isn't the pattern atleast supposed to be in the middle closer to the inside of the teeth? That looks like it's right dab smack in the upper corners.
