THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

really? i feel like people don't want to do the work but love bolt on stuff. i bet it would be easier than you think.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

sucks that you'd need to redo steering for the 44...

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

It obviously wouldn't have anything in the diff. It would be a "add your choice of locker and gear selection" thing.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

when you say he measured the runout on the carrier... what exactly was he measuring? runout is a geometric term that can apply to any 2 related features...

correcto.

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

regardless, it would be expensive for the axle because of the WJ stuff. then you'd have to dump another 600 into gears and god knows how much for a locker

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

Wait a second, where the hell are you paying $600 for gears?

gears plus installation.

Paying one lump sum is alot different than building an axle over time. People dont want to pull the trigger on something so expensive. especially if it needs more work

Mitchell's quoted a buddy $850 for parts plus labor on setting up 488s on a D30 alone

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

decent gears + decent install kit + labor

most people can't do an install by themselves...

Not sure? I'm not good with gears. I believe he was measuring the flange the ring gear bolted to against the housing? Not clue. Ross might be able to help me out with this.

Well, the housing itself has a lot of stuff done to it as well. But it's going to be tough to find someone that wanted the same things I wanted and is willing to pay for it.

Everything has 6 months on it. Maybe 10k miles?

WJ Moog Ball joints (Adjustable lowers)
WJ TREs (Crown RHD at pass side knuckle for OTK draglink)
TNT Coil buckets/shock mounts
TNT LCA mounts
JKS OTA Track Bar Bracket
WJ Knuckles
JKS Steering OTK
3 sets of 297 shafts. 2 are cut for full circles, both with tight joints. 3rd needs to be cut for full circles and needs joints
Unit bearings are still tight
Pass side UCA mount reinforced
Teeves calipers (1 new)
WJ Pads/Sport Trac rotors barely worn

maybe he measured "runout" (what should be basically the wobble along the axis) but really measured flatness? i doubt he bolted it up to a carrier and spun it around to measure the runout

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

i think that's probably what happened, kyle. good call.

we set a dail indicator up to measure the mating surface on the carrier where the rign gear goes. colin rotated the tires while me and bob were watchin the reading. its stayin pretty much in place the whole time then, BAM, one spot is out 0.020" that spot was where the ring lost its teeth. when everything bound up and blew up, that spot in the carrier flexed and took the other half of the force that broke the teeth off

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

probably sat it on a granite block and tossed feeler gauges under it

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread

First off... chat. Now. ;)
Mmmmmm...how about shiny silver gear oil with gear chunks?
Even better.
Haha I'd love to, but I don't think my XJ is ready for tons yet. I'd want to reinforce everything and I need it street legal for now.
Like I said, keep it the way you have, I was kidding about the D60.
I could just do gears and an open carrier again (my lockright survived) and get away with like $700-$800, but still that would leave me with somewhere around $3k into a D30.
regardless, it would be expensive for the axle because of the WJ stuff. then you'd have to dump another 600 into gears and god knows how much for a locker
:huh:What the heck are you guys getting for gears? You guys are way overpaying for that, IMO. Even a high quality set of gears is $185-200, then $80-120 for a master overhaul and you as less than half the lowest cost either of you mentioned.
Wait a second, where the hell are you paying $600 for gears?

Thats nuts. I don't care who does it, that is a ripoff. Do it yourself or find someone who isn't being you over.
