THe NAC Lots-O-BFG KO2 Thread

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

I think we're talking about the same thing- the computer under the hood.
ECU = Engine Control Unit. This just controls the engine, which is why the XJ has a TCU for tranny control in the cab.
PCU = Powertrain Control Unit. This controls both engine and transmission in one piece.

The XJ and TJ Computers are different.

ah i missed the fact that you were installing into a TJ. The dual CPS listing is probably normal vs high-altitude CPS

i found a source that says the 32RH is about 1.5" shorter than the ax-15, and i believe the TJ uses a different trans mount like you said instead of a different crossmember.

The different CPS's are listed per transmission.

Great, I was thinking that it was shorter so that is a good thing. I can just bolt the new trans mount on then.

Stupid question, I think.

I'm controlling all my relays with the coils all bussed to +12, and grounding at the switches. I'd like to have a status light at the switch as well and obviously a regular illuminated switch won't work in that case.

Any reason I can't just have an LED wired with constant +12 to its anode, and cathode tied to the same side of the switch as the relay coil, so it grounds both the coil and the LED when flipped?
That's the right way to switch relays, first of all.

Second, yes, will work great.

Thanks, but its a wrangler, which uses a PCM vs. an ECU. I don't think that would work.

I know you have to do all that stuff on an XJ, but this is a wrangler with 3 speed automatic. The transmission is already pretty short, so I don't know if the AX-15 is shorter or not.

Napa lists two completely different CPSs for a 2000.

There is a removable raised mount piece on the wrangler crossmember that looks like it could be changed for various transmissions, but the crossmember itself looks identical. I also don't think they have TC drops for TJs.

Its a 2000, so I'm not sure what that means.

PCM just means it handles the engine and transmission rather than just the engine. Assuming all the pins are in the same spots (they likely will be) a 2000 5 speed XJ ECU will probably work fine when doing a 5 speed swap on a TJ since there isn't a transmission to manage anymore anyways. It's generally the same hardware, different firmware.

That being said, that's not an easy donor to find either so just get it flashed. 2000 is going to be coil pack rather than distributor so you definitely need a JTEC+ not just a regular JTEC. Easier to just send it in and have it flashed.

Unsure about what a 2000 would have. Long story short the standard motor products PC169 is specced for a 5 speed 97-04 TJ and also any 96-00 XJ, so it should bolt right together. Use a year-appropriate flywheel, and make sure you get the right diameter pilot bearing.

I (now) know it is, after designing the whole wiring scheme for the truck from scratch - aside from being right in principle, it greatly simplifies a lot of things and gets rid of many redundant wires and failure points. The main switch panel has no +12V to it at all.

The auxiliary panel (by the steering wheel, which has the f/r E-lockers, winch arm/in/out, etc) is where I'm putting indicator lights.

Damn Chris that wiring looks great. Where did you get that plastic box setup? Are they deutz plugs coming in/out of it? Something like that would be nice to keep the wiring in the truck clean.

^^ yep that's all it is.

The panel-mount connectors are Molex MX150L, and the whole thing should still be fairly waterproof as all the connectors are gasketed externally, the plugs are sealed when connected, and when the fuse/relay panel covers are in place they're waterproof as well.

Not that it really matters, because there are no components inside the box anyway, and the fuse/relay panels are sealed from the back side as well (they use Metripak hardware and wire seals).

Who wants to go to Epping June 14th with me and William. I have extra tickets. There $61.25 each

Re: THe NAC Lots-O-Post Thread aka North America Home Owners Association Thread

To the guys with 3 links, is your upper longer or shorter? I am trying to make it so that with my mid arms I want decent streetability and less unloading.
Right now its looking like 22 inch lowers, 20 inch upper, 8-10 inches of axle side separation, 4 inches at the frame and Im just trying to keep it simple.
Im also at 2.5-3 inches of lift thats why im running the mid arms.

I run a longer upper. Only because as the suspension droops my pinion starts to point up giving me more droop without binding. then again this is with a low pinion axle on a fullsize.

I have a low pinion axle in my XJ. And I shortened the xj shaft 2 inches, should I worry about it binding?
The plan for right now is to just plate the inside rail of the xj with 3/16.
Basically I am trying to copy your old 3 link setup, just Im running on the passenger side, I have your old lowers, ruffstuff hiems, and a 3 foot section of 1.5 .250 wall dom. So am I over thinking this?
